Little Snitch v.4.3.1
SMCVersion Would you mind providing some background to that story? It seems obdev is based in Vienna, Austria. What request was there? And why would they need to battle it (rather than toss it into a paper bin)? It doesn't seem like there would be any legal channel for the NSA to compel them to do anything. Price: $45+ for a new copy; $25+ for an upgrade exactly. how can one be sure that it doesn't use the network for its own nefarious purposes while hiding its own network activity ? It won't do anything. It'll be filtered out pretty fast. Most torrent sites comes with people comments that'll inform you if there is any malware installed or if it works or not and a lot of time it'll get deleted off torrent sites and many people are using private trackers that are usually pretty damn effective and even harder to track for those companies. I once caught and identified an infected machine at our place that was horizontally scanning our entire network for other hosts to infect too, all thanks to Little Snitch's prompts about whether I should allow the connection. So it doesn't just protect you, it helps protect the network your machine is connected to.
Recomended 10.11.5 macpkg.icu/?id=10426&kw=VERSION.4.1.3.LITTLE.SNITCH.WRW.PKG (38036 kb)
on MacOS macpkg.icu/?id=10426&kw=mtju.v.4.2.3.Little.Snitch.dmg (52803 kb)
I would totally accept some presets for apple services.
Same thing here, I tried using it a few times but I just end up uninstalling it.
Yes, I would buy a Linux version of this. I use UFW, but it requires a lot of work. A gui with that network monitor would be great.
found no cons
I have blocked everything Adobe Lightroom and its little cloud friends try to do, except on install to validate key. And a bunch of other apps / Apple services. If it wasn't for Little Snitch I wouldn't feel at ease running Mac instead of Linux. For me MacOS is a decent compromise between privacy and convenience because of Little Snitch. (Except that I implicitly add to the problem by accepting Mac in my life, leading by example and all that. Still struggling with that. But I tell myself I have bigger fish to fry.)
One of their latest features? Auto-updated rule groups subscriptions!
You can go even further by controlling where the application can connect:
And the ability to do per-application captures and open them in wireshark is excellent for debugging.
