The King of Hell was in danger of losing his position. Crowley had turned Hell into a place of great efficiency but all of that would surely be changed if Lucifer ever regained his spot on the top of the figurative food chain of Hell. And it was all because that sweet, little angel Castiel had decided to double cross him and take all of the souls of Purgatory into himself. Included among those souls were the Leviathans, who were now still on the loose, looking to release Lucifer from his cage.
Of course, Crowley couldn't let that happen. He didn't fancy becoming Hell's most wanted demon again. Most of Lucifer's strongest loyalists had been taken care of a long time ago but those wish-washy demons who hadn't given Crowley all that much trouble would surely bow down before their father again if he found himself on Earth again. Maybe the Devil's first priority wouldn't be to kill him but Crowley believed that his death was somewhere up there on the top ten things Lucifer wanted to do once he was free again. Crowley wasn't sure if he should be flattered that Lucifer might consider his death such an important event to accomplish or if he should wish for the ability to go back in time to change what he had done so that he never ended up on the Devil's hit list.
The one thing that Crowley was sure of right now was that a lot of activity seemed to be centered around the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. What was so special about this place? Crowley had no idea, but it was definitely worth checking out. The people working on stopping the Leviathans would surely have noticed all of the strange goings on by now and would be flocking towards the town. They were the ones that he needed to make deals with. They were the ones that he needed to help out, even if most of them would no doubt be wary to ally up with the current King of Hell. But they would just have to get over their trust issues because working with a demon was a lot better than lying dead somewhere because Lucifer was on Earth again.
And that was why Crowley found himself walking around the town square right now, looking for any indications that the people walking past him might but hunters. But, so far, they all appeared to be just your average Joes and Janes. Had the hunters of the world started to lose their touch or were they all shacked up in the cheapest motel in town wracking their brains over possible ways to keep the Leviathans from releasing the Devil? Only time would tell.

[/img] Charlie’s shift at the computer repair business had just ended. She loved that she was able to get such a stable job in her now normal life. Well – at least as normal as a computer hacker’s life could be. She really loved the happy little life that she had built for herself. She worked a simple job, bought fandom merchandise whenever she felt like it and played League of Legend or World of Warcraft from time to time. None of that creepy supernatural stuff happening. Unfortunately, she had no idea that the new town she had moved to was a bed of supernatural activity. Little did she know that her perfect life would come crashing down a little sooner than she thought. The day was pleasant. The sun was shining and there was a slight breeze that was whipping through the town square. Charlie sighed and tossed her bright red hair over her shoulder as she walked down the sidewalk after exiting the building where she worked. She paused in walking down the sidewalk when she noticed that a new gaming store was being set up right next to the computer repair place. Her jaw dropped when she saw that they were setting up not only the merchandise that was to be sold, but there was also a section where the games could be played right inside the store. AWESOME. Charlie didn’t remove her gaze from the new store as she continued to walk down the sidewalk with a faster pace. However, since she wasn’t watching where she was going, she soon ran straight into something – or something. The force caused her to fall back onto the ground and she looked up to see a somewhat intimidating looking gentleman staring down at her. “ I’m sorry! Are – are you okay? I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she said, moving so that her hair was out of her face as she pulled herself to her feet.[/blockquote]

Crowley could have wandered around aimlessly for hours on end and would have found himself no closer to finding any miserable human being who could have been of any help to him. Just where in the world were all of the hunters who should have been flocking to this town? Such a small place having such a large spike in supernatural activity should have sent them all running for Mystic Falls. He could only hope that the hunters were getting slower these days and the memo had reached him long before they caught on to what was going on here.
The demon stopped in his tracks in the middle of the sidewalk. Crowley began to contemplate teleporting himself out of the Town Square and to some of the cheapest hotels in town and nearby because it was starting to look like if there were any hunters in town that's where they would be. But, before he could so much as begin to picture one of the hotels, a young woman ran into him. She fell to the ground but Crowley was much luckier, managing to stay on his feet. The woman should be grateful for that because there would have been hell to pay if the King of Hell had found himself on the ground too.
She apologized profusely to him and Crowley found himself saying, "It's all right. Accidents happen." He could be polite when he wanted to be (but he wasn't polite enough to offer her a helping hand off of the ground). As he got his first good look at the lady, he couldn't help but feel like he knew her from somewhere. He had had his demons watch the Winchester brothers during the Dick Roman business. They had told him about Charlie but he had never laid eyes on the computer hacker himself.
But his demons had described her well enough to him to make him say, "Possibly a long shot but do you know a Sam and Dean Winchester?" Even if she did know who they were, it didn't mean that she knew where they were but the boys may have at least given her a number where they could be contacted if she ever needed their help. After all, some Leviathans were still out there and might decide to come after her if they ever got bored.

[/img] Charlie smiled at the man nervously when he gave her a polite response to her blabbering. She was thankful that the man hadn’t reprimanded her. He looked like some kind of authority figure with his fancy suit and stern look on his face. Authority figures were always something that really set Charlie on her toes. This was partially her own fault, since she was constantly hacking into government databases and forcing them to donate money to charities…among other things. “ R-right, yeah. Accidents definitely happen,” she said, quickly trying to fix her hair and straighten her t-shirt and sweatshirt, both of which were slightly skewed because of her fall. That was the second time that she’d run into someone and fallen down in the past few days. It probably wouldn’t be the last, but she should be a little more careful. Or at least come up with another way of introducing herself to people. She looked down to make sure nothing had fallen out of her messenger bag when she realized that the man was staring at her. Right when she was about to say that she had to be on her way, he spoke up. She froze when she heard the names that he inquired about. Charlie raised her gaze to meet the man’s face as she brushed some hair out of her face. “ Ah…Sam and Dean Winchester?” she asked, trying to buy herself some time to think of something to say. Yeah, she knew the Winchesters. She didn't like to be around them, but that didn't mean she was going to sell them out. " Uh...not sure. What do they look like?" she asked, rubbing her chin.[/blockquote]

Most demons were inherent liars, which was no small part in why running Hell was...Well, like hell. This young woman did a very commendable job, however, of trying to cover up the fact that she knew the Winchester brothers, but Crowley wasn't about to give her a compliment for a job well done. If she had been speaking to anyone else right now, then her cover up would have worked. But she wasn't talking to anyone else so no wool was being pulled over anyone's eyes now. "On the best of days, I'm not the most patient man...Pardon me, demon to deal with and, if there's one thing in the world that's bound to make my patience run dry, then it's liars, Miss Bradbury."
He was absolutely certain now that this woman was Charlie Bradbury. She had done more than she probably knew in helping the boys take down Dick Roman and had then been smart enough to leave them, never wanting to see them again--and that was without knowing what happened to most people who remained close to the Winchesters. The horror stories that Crowley could tell her, if he felt like spending the rest of the day talking to her...which he didn't feel like doing. All he wanted to know was how Dean and Sam could be contacted because, while he could find them on his own if he looked hard enough, it was so much easier to do things the old-fashioned way of calling and asking them politely where they were. He was on the same side as they were; he wanted the rest of the Leviathans destroyed because Lucifer would want his head on a platter, if he got out of his cage again.
"My little birdies tell me that you and the boys didn't part on the best of terms," he said, "but Moose and Squirrel, while not overly sentimental most of the time, should have contacted you by now to let you know that cutting off the head didn't make the rest of body flounder like it was supposed. There are still Leviathans out there, looking to do far worse than turn Americans into docile sheep being led to the slaughterhouse." If they hadn't gotten in touch with her, then the King of Hell might be out of luck because his little birdies didn't seem to think that the brothers had given Charlie any way of contacting them if she ever needed to do so.

Charlie’s nerves that were slowly but surely beginning to calm down knotted up once again when she completely processed what the man said. Not only did this guy know her name, but he was also a demon. She knew that waiting to change her identity again was a bad idea! Why had she waited? Sure, she’d grown a little fond of her fake persona, but she should have thought it through more. Safety first!
“D-demon? D-did…did you say demon?” she asked when she was finally able to speak again.
Demons? Demons? She didn’t even know that things like that existed…they couldn’t. But with the way that the man was staring at her, she had a feeling that he was telling the truth. She paused and swallowed hard. This was bad. This was really, really bad.
Just when she thought she’d escaped that horrifying supernatural stuff, she gets cornered by a demon asking if she knew two guys that she honestly hoped she would never see again. This couldn’t be real. This could not be real.
She took a subconscious step backwards when the man continued to speak. Her eyes widened at the mention of the Leviathans. No, no, no, no, no. This wasn’t real – this had to be some kind of a nightmare. “Alright, I – I do know them. But I don’t know how to get a hold of them. I - " she paused.
Charlie has the urge to run, but it was as if she had lost control of her body and she was frozen in place. If she was of no use to this demon would he just kill her?

Well, look at this. The Winchester brothers were magnets for demons but this young lady seemed quite shocked that demons really did exist. It appeared that Dean and Sam hadn't had the chance to tell her about all of the monsters that were lurking around in the world. The Leviathans may have been the first creatures that God created but they were hardly the worst of them.
But now was not the time to give her that lesson. She was surely already learning some of it by the very fact that she was currently conversing with a demon. Crowley couldn't be bothered to give her a lesson in all things that wanted to kill humans, nor could he be bothered by her surprise (or, from his point of view, idiocy) in a calm fashion either. "Did I?" he repeated, "Yes, I said demon!" His voice rose in pitch as it was clear that idiots were one group of people he like dealing even less with than with his fellow demons.
There was the truth from her finally but along with the truth came some disappointing news: she didn't know how to reach Dean and Sam. However, it seemed like she had planned on saying something else, cutting herself off suddenly. "You...What?" Crowley prodded. He seriously doubted that whatever she planned to say would be helpful to him but even Crowley wasn't beyond hoping.
What Crowley didn't doubt was that she was terrified of him and that was rather insulting. What had he done to her to make her so afraid? He thought humans were all about not judging others based on their race...or, in this case, more like species. While it was true that most demons were the same, it didn't mean that all demons were the same. He didn't know what to say, though, to try and get her to calm down. Well, saying anything would be worth a shot, wouldn't it? "I'm the King of Hell, Miss Bradbury, and that's a title I would like to hold onto. I want to help Sam and Dean before the Leviathans can spring Lucifer from his cage again." Hey, if she knew demons existed now, then surely bringing up the Devil's name wasn't going to be too surprising, right?

[/img] Charlie jumped slightly when the man raised his voice to her. “ Right, right, that was a stupid question,” she said, brushing some hair out of her face and looking around her. This was real, right? This wasn’t a dream – er, nightmare, rather? She subtly pinched herself, but all that accomplished was giving herself a sore spot on her forearm. Yeah, this was definitely real. She wanted to run – just bolt home or at least back into the computer shop…but something told her that running away from a conversation with a demon might be a really bad idea. She paused in answering his question. Was she really thinking about helping out a demon against the Winchester brothers? Sure, she didn’t exactly have a high opinion of them (since they pretty much almost got her killed…but then they also saved her, so maybe they weren’t so bad?) but she doubted that the demon had anything exactly good to have to do with them. “ Um…nothing,” she muttered, looking back at the man. Charlie might be a huge chicken, but she still had morals. She wasn’t going to sell Sam and Dean in order to save her own skin. Her eyes widened as she took in what the demon said. Leviathans and Lucifer?! “ Oh my God,” she said finally after a moment of shocked silence. She wasn’t exactly sure if she completely understood everything that the man said, but pretty much what she got from it was that the Leviathans were trying to get Lucifer back on Earth…or something? “ I – I might know a way to get a hold of them.” [/blockquote]

At least she had enough common sense to realize that she had asked a stupid question. Most other people would have told him that there was no need to get angry with them. But the way Crowley saw it he had every reason to get angry at their stupidity. He dealt with stupidity on a daily basis when it came to the demons he ruled over. They were always thinking that they could take shortcuts whenever he handed them orders or completely ignore what he wanted them to do and, no matter how he punished them, they always made the same mistakes again.
So good for Miss Bradbury for admitting that she had asked a stupid question. But not so good for her that she decided not to tell him whatever it was she had suddenly cut herself off from saying. He wasn't going to press on that issue...at least not right now. He might get back to it if she had nothing else to tell him but what she hadn't said to him.
How much had Dean and Sam not told this young woman? Was keeping her in the dark about nearly everything the proper way to treat a new friend, especially when she was a very smart new friend that they might need to call on in the future for more help? Her exclamation was enough to let Crowley know that Lucifer's very existence was news to her. "I'm afraid that God has nothing to do with it," he quipped. God could care less about what happened on Earth, even though he supposedly loved His humans so much.
Crowley's eyebrows perked up at Charlie's next words. He even let a small grin play across his face. "Now that's what I like to hear," he said, "Please, do tell me how you can get in touch with them." The sooner he found Dean and Sam, the sooner he could find out what they were planning to do with the Leviathans that had survived Dick's death and the sooner he could offer up what assistance he could, if they would take it, that is.

[/IMG] The urge to run was steadily rising in her mind. What was she thinking? Talking to a demon? A demon?! She was having inner turmoil over whether she should run or not. If this demon wanted something from her – and it seemed like he did – and she ran, then the demon would probably go after her. On the other hand, though, it was pretty stupid to just sit around, just waiting for the demon to attack her…right? That’s what demons did, right? She didn’t know for sure – she’d never exactly met a demon before. There really was a first time for everything apparently. Charlie had used her exclamation of “Oh my God” as just a figure of speech. She was definitely not a religious person, despite the fact that she was talking to a demon, which was technically a religious figure…right? “ Um…what?” Charlie was a very practical and logical person and she just found it difficult to believe that there was some kind of invisible higher being that had absolutely everyone’s lives already planned out. She’d had enough trouble believing in those Leviathan things until she had seen them for herself. Oh, why did these supernatural things have to keep happening to her? She just wanted to get back to her usual life. A nervous grin spread across Charlie’s face when she saw a small grin on the demon’s face. “ Er…well, I could probably trace them,” she said, picking up her computer back and wandering over to the nearest bench on the side of the sidewalk. She sat down and flipped out her computer, immediately beginning to furiously type as soon as she pulled up the internet. Charlie typed as quickly as she could in a few moments of silence. She was relieved when she was able to come up with something quickly - she had the feeling this guy didn't like to wait around. " Um...a-according to this, they're both in Mystic Falls and they're staying at the Motel 6 on Baker Street," she said, briefly looking up from her computer. Was that good enough? Or did he want something more specific?[/blockquote]

Oh, the things that Crowley could have corrected her on when it came to demons. Yes, most of them were liable to attack first and ask questions later. They could care less about humans, even though they had once been humans themselves. But why would a crossroads demon want to attack first? It wasn't a part of their job description. It would hardly be beneficial for them to attack the people desperate enough to summon them to make a deal, and Crowley was hardly going to harm the one person on Earth who might be able to tell him where he could find Dean and Sam.
He titled his head to the side, an amused smile playing across his face, as he might have well been speaking Greek to Miss Bradbury when he mentioned God's name. "What? You didn't think the Devil could exist without God, did you?" Someone had to have created all of those pesky archangels and angels. Crowley really hated the boys for not opening up her eyes to all that existed. He didn't want to waste his valuable time dealing with her shock each time he just happened to mention one of those creatures.
"Probably?" he repeated. Crowley didn't like the sound of that one word. "Where I come from, there is no such thing as 'probably'; you either can or you can't. So can you or can't you?" He was starting to lose patience with her. Either she was trying to buy time in the hopes that Crowley might leave without the location of Dean and Sam or she wasn't as smart as his demons who had been watching the brothers had led him to believe she was.
Thankfully, though, some of his patience was restored as she took out her laptop and gave him a location. So, the Hardy boys were in town, after all. But there was an unsettling hint of uncertainty on her face. Crowley couldn't know that that was because she didn't know if she had given him a satisfactory amount of information. Being such a great liar himself, he found it healthy to suspect others of also occasionally dealing in lies. "You're not lying to me, are you? Because you don't want to know what I do to liars." If Dean and Sam weren't at the hotel, then it would be easy enough to track Charlie down and show her what he did do to those dumb enough to lie to him.

[/img] Charlie’s mind was reeling, trying to think of some way out of this whole situation, but…the more she thought about it, the more she realized that really the only way to get out of this whole thing alive would be to just do what the demon wanted. As much as she didn’t want to help out a demon, she really didn’t see any other route to safety. It would be alright, though, it would be alright. Charlie was trying not to think about the possibility that the demon might kill her as soon as he got the information he wanted. Maybe he would just leave her alone after that? “ Um…I – I never really thought about it, I guess,” she said, slightly shrugging. “ But, um…alright. God is real. That’s good to know,” she said, scratching at her temples. Man, it was just one shock after another. Those stupid Leviathans – all of this supernatural information started with them. Well, technically, it was the Winchesters, but if the Leviathans hadn’t invaded her work, then the Winchesters would never have bothered her. “ No, no! I can. I can trace them,” she said quickly when he expressed doubt in her statement. Charlie was never really one to brag about her hacking abilities, since she’d had some bad history with authorities because of it. After all, it was definitely a bad idea to go shouting about something illegal that you’re doing, right? “ Wha-no! No, I swear, I’m telling the truth!” she said, vigorously shaking her head and looking up at the demon. “ Look, here’s the info,” she said, turning her laptop around so that she could prove that she wasn’t lying. The King of Hell couldn't help but chuckle when Charlie mentioned that God existing was good news. "Is it?" he said. Oh, the ignorance of human beings! "If God really cared about you, then do you think he'd just sit idly by, while the Leviathans threaten to spring His former favorite son from his cage again? God gave up caring about this planet a long time ago. Rumor has it that he's not even in Heaven anymore and most of the wings up there believe he's never coming back." The truth be told, Crowley almost wished God would step in and do something; he was just afraid that that something might also involve taking down the King of Hell a notch or two.
Human beings were ignorant and they were so quick to fear. Crowley wasn't an evil monster. As a matter of fact, he was one of the few demons out there that humans didn't have to be worried about, unless they decided to double-cross and/or lie to him. Crowley hated the black-eyed demons as much as any human did. He had a lot in common with them, as much as he and they might not want to admit it. He kept all of those thoughts to himself, however, because he doubted that Charlie would believe half of the good things he could say about himself to her.
He looked down at the screen. Sure enough it said everything that she had told him, but none of that meant that it was true. Crowley furrowed his brow in contemplation as he examined Charlie closely. She was supposedly a socially awkward genius, and a socially awkward genius could hardly be expected to be able to be a good liar, especially when dealing with someone who frightened them, as Crowley clearly frightened her.
After a long moment of silence had passed, he let a smile play across his face. "Relax," he said, "I believe you." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a business card, stating his name, his title (King of Hell), and his phone number (because cell phones were a nifty and handy way of keeping in touch with others, while walking on Earth). Crowley handed it over to Charlie. "Thanks for your help. I owe you. Free of charge. Call me if you ever need my help." Not many were lucky enough to receive such an offer without having to worry about giving up their soul to him.

[/img] Charlie raised her eyebrows, surprised to hear the demon chuckling at what she said. Had she said something funny? Her confusion was soon resolved, though, from the next thing the demon said. Well…that was completely different than everything she’d ever heard about God. She opened her mouth to say something, but then quickly closed it. She really needed to learn to think about what she wanted to say before opening her mouth. “ So…things are just kind of in chaos now,” she said. It wasn’t a question; it was a statement. Maybe that was the reason that all these supernatural things were happening all over the place. Alright, so maybe this wasn’t so good after all. Oh, she would much prefer just to go back to being completely ignorant of all this stuff! She watched him carefully as he examined the screen. Charlie had hacked into the hotel archives to get the information, so it was definitely valid. Now she just had to wait to see if the demon actually believed her. She stayed as still as she could when he examined her, as if thinking that if she moved, he would think she was lying. “ Oh, good,” she said, running a hand through her hair and heaving a sigh of relief. Hey, maybe she would get out of this thing alive, after all! She hesitated, but took the card from the man’s hand and looked at it. After glancing at it, she looked up at him. " Thanks, I'll uh...well, thanks," she said, not quite sure what else to say. ooc: I think this is a good place to stop, but I'd be happy to do another thread, if you like![/blockquote]

Crowley was glad when she decided not to make a big deal out of the new information she had just been given. The demon had to give her props; most humans wouldn't have handled that news half so well. But anyone with half a brain would have to realize that that was the truth. They could talk all they wanted to about God not interfering because of free will but the truth of it all was that He didn't care; He wasn't even in Heaven weeping when so many innocent people lost their lives because of free will. "It wasn't chaos that drove Him away, darling. He just left." Long before any of the chaos began when Lilith was busy breaking those seals.
Charlie seemed rather confused by his offer. Perhaps it was because she didn't expect a demon to be so polite to her? Really, one day, if he could muster himself up to care enough, he might have to sit her down and tell her all of the reasons why he wasn't the bad guy she thought that he was. "Until our next meeting then," he said, a smile on his face. In less than a second, Crowley had vanished from the town square and was standing outside of the motel she had told him the brothers were staying at. He could only hope that they would be willing to hear him out and take any help that he offered them.
(OOC: I'm sure at some point we will thread again! But, for now, Crowley needs to get in touch with the Winchesters.)
