Elias stared out the windshield at the town square, his blues eyes watching the tiny, delicate snowflakes absently as they fall to the ground, coating everything. It was beautiful, the snow that was. Odd how it changed a normal every day town square into something out of a fairytale, or perhaps it was the white lights and lit candles that did it? Or possibly a combination of both? Yeah, probably a combination of both.
Either way, it was beautiful and Elias didn’t really understand why he had decided to come on his own. After all, he could have (and should have) waited for Mallory to get home from work and brought her too but....
Long story short he hadn’t and that was that. Truth be told Elias was hoping to find his brother here. The last he had heard, Alaric was teaching at the high school here, and it had been...Hell, years since he had seen his brother. At least...Wow, Elias shook his head as he thought about it, a long time. The last time had probably been when he had graduated High School, which was almost ten years ago now. Hard to believe that after being so close, they had let this much time pass without seeing one another.
But that’s how life worked. Some people stuck around, and others didn’t. It wasn’t either one of their’s fault, it just happened.
Removing the classic cowboy hat he generally wore and setting it on the passenger seat of the old Ford F1-50, Elias spared a quick glance at his hair before getting out of the truck. He didn’t bother to lock it, it wasn’t as if there was anything worth stealing in it, and walked towards the entrance of the town square. There were a lot of people milling around, and a few he even knew, but Elias just nodded and walked on, wondering through the crowed.
It was an odd thing, Elias thought, for him not to go over and say hi and generally just be social. He was a social guy after all, and well, he did love being the center of attention. Just tonight he had one thing on his mind, and that was, hopefully, finding his brother. Ten plus years was too long to go without seeing one another after all...

It was the night of the Winter Wonderland event that was being held by the council in town square. Every time Alaric thought about the council, he remembered how his dark self had spilled the information that Caroline was a vampire and Tyler was a werewolf, to the entire council. It was his fault that the two were being hunted now. Alaric wasn’t in the best of moods, one, his newly found daughter was having relations with Damon. Damon was Ric’s best friend no doubt, but when it came to him dating Elena or even Abigail, his father instincts kicked in. If Damon dared to try anything, the new original vampire could easily overpower him and give him a serious beating. Alaric wanted to let Abigail do what she wanted, for she was only a teenager of sixteen years old, the girl was going to crave for her freedom. That, and what woman could possibly resist Damon Salvatore? Ric sighed, placing his glass of whiskey down on the countertop before contemplating whether going to the event or not.
His second issue was how a vampire named Lexi Branson had allowed him to feed from her and didn’t alert him of the effects that blood sharing could possibly make an individual fall in love with the person that they fell in love with. Ric thought Lexi was letting him feed out of the kindness of her heart, but really it just seemed like a motive to get herself a personal love slave. Ric couldn’t deny that Lexi was on his mind, but was it real or just the effects of the blood sharing? Alaric scoffed. The new vampire had too many things to deal with, he was better off dead. He then mentally scolded himself for thinking such a thing. Alaric was needed more than ever and he couldn’t be the one to mope around because he was an all powerful vampire now that had a daughter of his waltz onto his doorstep and request a friendship. The man looked up and decided to go to the event, he needed to get out and clear his head.
Grabbing his leather jacket, he slid his arms through the arms and took his keys before heading out the door and making his way down to town square which wasn’t all too far from his apartment.....Arriving at the event, it was a truly an interesting sight to see. It was creative and beautiful. Real snow lightly fell onto the various venders and carnival attractions that the council had pulled together to celebrate the winter season. Alaric kept to himself and shoved his hands into his pockets, not sure of what to do or even who he wanted to see right now. Then...a scent hit him like no other. Of course he was new to being a vampire, but there was something about this scent that started to rise into his nostrils. He had never experienced such a scent before and couldn’t even understand it. This began to puzzle Alaric as he froze and tried to figure out what the hell he was smelling. It was a person....Alaric’s blue eyes searched the figures and faces and as the scent grew stronger, that was when he realized who it was the moment he saw him...Elias.
Elias was his younger brother who he hadn’t seen in...ten years. Ric started to feel very guilty and quickly sped away to avoid his brother as he was unknowingly walking in his direction. Alaric hid behind a closed shop and tried to catch his breath and figure out why his brother would be there. Guilt rushed over him as he remembered the friendship that him and Elias once had when they were both younger, but once Ric got married and got involved in being a hunter, he avoided all family contact and focused simply on his goal. Alaric was a prick for avoiding his family, but he had a good reason. Happiness and excitement then filled Alaric’s mind as he then sped behind his brother and stood there as he called out his name. ”Elias....been a long time...” His brother was faced away from him, but he should easily catch onto his voice.
Was his brother in search for Alaric or was it all just coincidence? Alaric had gone through so much and changed a lot along the way, would his brother still love him after everything? After what seemed like a careless abandonment? The man stood behind his brother, watching him as snow fell in between them and the weather chilled him to the core as his heart started to race as he wore a calm face.

Elias didn’t need super human hearing or telepathy or anything like that to know that someone was behind him, watching him. He didn’t need a vampire’s ability to smell to know who it was either. He just KNEW. Alaric’s words caused him to stop short, but he didn’t turn around right away. He stayed with his back turned to him, hesitating.
It was easy to say you wanted to see someone again. It was easy to say that the last ten or so years didn’t matter. It was easy to say anything come to think of it. To DO something though? Much harder, especially when you’re suddenly faced with what you wanted to do....
Elias turned around quickly, facing his brother through the lightly falling snow. His blue eyes, usually full of some kind of mischief were caution as they looked him over carefully. He was the same, and yet different, no doubt much like Elias himself was. ”Alaric, ” he says with a nod as he considered his brother once again. Yep, the short brown hair (just a shade darker then Elias’s), and blue eyes were still the same. Perhaps a little darker then they use to be, not as care free but the same none the less.
“About ten years, give or take,” he says with a nod after a moment of silence. This wasn’t like Elias, not at all. He was the guy that didn’t shut up, who always had something to say and generally it was the right thing. Now though? Confronted with his brother after this long...He was speechless. Truth be known, although he had hoped to run into Alaric, he really hadn’t been expecting to. He had been looking for a couple years now after all... Yeah, much easier when you thought about it. Going through with it was the hard part...
Elias sighed softly to himself and ran a hand through his now damp, dark blond hair. Once, twice and three times before dropping his hand and moving to adjust his jacket. Both acts were nervous tics that he had always had, tics that had (on more then on occasion) gotten him into trouble, since sadly his parents and teachers had picked up on them. No doubt Alaric would too...After all, SOME things didn’t change, even after ten years or so.
Truth be known, what Elias wanted most was to run over and hug his brother. However, he had the feeling that that particular plan wouldn’t go over well not to mention it would be highly undignified. Instead he just stood there, watching him through the lightly falling snow, the people and activities around him drowned out. Sighing again slightly he chews on his bottom lip for a moment (another nervous tic from childhood) before speaking, “How’ve you been Rick?” he asks him after a moment, his blue eyes curious.

Just as Alaric spoke his brother’s name, he began to regret it in the sense of how improper and nonchalant he was about the whole thing. Shouldn’t he be more fragile with the situation? Ric hoped his brother wouldn’t be mad of how he just appeared and tried to make things right again. Well, there was nothing really broken between them, just the fact of how they hadn’t spoken to one another due to life changes for the both of them. There was no one to blame...except Alaric, he could pick up the phone every now and again and call the brother he called his best friend at the time. Ric watched as his younger brother froze in his place. He observed him from behind and could see that his hair had remained the same length as he liked it, the same color. But now his brother was much taller than before and gained muscle, overall he had changed yet remained the same. Though, those thoughts diminished as Elias turned around quickly to face the voice that called his name. The hesitation was a hint that he knew exactly whose voice it was.
Looking into his eyes, they remained quiet for a while, just observing one another silently. Alaric’s heart filled with happiness and joy all over again as the past of their memories together started to surface once again. How he wished he could go back to that life instead of the life that he had to live now. The name was exchanged and he nodded lightly, Alaric lightly scoffed as a smile started to arise as he took his hands out of his pockets and shook his head. He just couldn’t believe what was happening...after all these years and his brother just shows up in the middle of the holidays. What a perfect gift for Christmas, he thought. Though Elias’s eyes were shown as cautious, that kind hearted man lurked within. It was understandable that he would be very wary and even confused on what to do. Honestly, Ric wasn’t even sure of what to do. Eli told him that it had been ten years give or take on the last time that they had seen another. The smile lightly faded as he looked down to the pavement for a moment before returning his eyes to meet his brother’s again.
After his words, there was so much silence between them. The awkwardness was a given since the two haven’t seen one another in such a long time. It was like trying to start over again, as if the two were strangers. His little brother started to run his hands through his hair before his hands fell to his jacket, adjusting what didn’t even need adjusting. He was nervous and those were obvious signs of it, he was the same alright. Alaric wanted to speak, tell him everything that had happened in those long years which went from paradise to hell. Currently, the man was very different, he was a vampire that was immortal. The two just stood there and finally the silence was broken as he asked how he was doing, then Ric just couldn’t take it anymore before he quickly walked over to Elias and threw his arms around him and partook in a strong embrace. As he hugged him, his eyes even started to water. His best friend was back and there was so much he wished to tell him. In response to his question, he continued to hug him for a moment as he replied. ”I can’t even begin to explain...”
Alaric pulled away slowly but still kept close, trying to fight back tears of happiness, he sniffed violently once or twice before smiling completely, joy was coming over him. ”I have so much I want to tell you..I’m sorry for not keeping in touch, it’s a big regret of mine...but wait, what are you doing here?” Before he got too excited about his brothers reappearance, he would have to question why he was there or if he was living there or just visiting.

He blinked once, then twice as he brother hugged him, more than a little surprised at the reaction. Whatever he had been expecting as far as a reaction went, that wasn’t it. Ok, so he wasn’t expecting any yelling or stupidity like that, but the awkwardness? Yeah, he figured that would last longer than it had, not that he wanted it to but...
Ah hell, what do I know? He thought to himself as he put his strong arms around his brother, hugging him back tightly. This. Was. Not. Happening. Couldn’t be, not after this many years...The people you loved didn’t just pop back into your live suddenly, and it wasn’t supposed to be like nothing had happened, no time had passed.
No it should be different, shouldn’t it?
But no, as Elias just held his brother tightly he could easily believe that they were youngsters again. Like time hadn’t, in all it’s cruel fates, torn them about. Everything came flooding back to him at the moment. How many sleepless nights had they passed together? Elias with night terrors, and Alaric comforting him? How many times had his brother bailed him out of trouble? Really, how often had he just been there for him? Pretty, damn near every time he had needed him that’s how many.
And then he had left. Gone without a word and ten years of silence. Nothing, nada...
Let’s face it, Elias should have been pissed at his brother for leaving him high and dry like that. And in the beginning, yeah he had been. Then he had been worried, and then probably a year ago he had accepted it for what it was. Did it stop him from looking for him? Nope, not a chance, and now here he was. Giving him a quick squeeze he shakes his head, trying to keep from completely loosing it emotionally. Damn it, when did he turn into such a girl?
Which, as he let Rick go and took a step back, blinking away tears of joy as he did, Elias realized that’s all that matter. You lived life now, in the present not in the past. What was done was done and that was that. You couldn’t change what had happened, and it only ruined the here and now if you dwelled on it.
He listened as Alaric tripped over his apology, his trademark amused grin crossing his features as he waits for his brother to finish. He shrugs slightly, “Communication goes two ways Ric, it’s not completely your fault,” he points out after a moment. His grin falters at the last part before shrugging, “Here as in, in Mystic Falls? Or here as in at this town gathering, celebration thing?” he asks him.
Which was really a stupid question, after all the answer was obvious wasn’t it? Sighing slightly considers his words carefully, before answering both of his own questions, “The long and short for both is I was hoping...” he trails off for a moment again, “Well, I was hoping to find you, like you said it’s been a while,” He finishes lamely. No need to get into too much details right off the bat, right? Well, maybe..Ah god, it wasn’t like this was some stranger, it was his brother and regardless of whether he had been gone ten minutes, or ten years, it seemed like nothing had changed between them. Shoving his hands in his pockets, Elias watches him, waiting for his reaction.

Once Alaric came in for a strong brotherly hug, he knew it would shock Elias, but Alaric just couldn’t take it anymore. Of course it wasn’t perhaps the most appropriate thing for him to do right at that moment, but he could not stand the awkwardness any longer and a hug would be able to help remove at least most of the awkwardness. Hell, they were older and more mature now, it was hard to not act like strangers around one another, but it was also hard to just try to casually walk back into someone’s life and demand a relationship after so many years of not talking to one another. It was mostly Ric’s fault for getting wrapped up in his new life and not keeping in touch with those that would always be there for him. It was a selfish thing of him to do, to just leave without a word and think Elias would be fine with him just showing up out of the blue and thinking everything was alright. Ric knew everything was not alright, not his past actions, nor his current life. One of the reasons Alaric felt awkward around his brother so much was because he was a completely different person.
Alaric wanted to tell him everything about his own life so far, but there was just so much and how could his brother even possibly begin to understand or comprehend the thought of supernatural beings and creatures that lived in their world along side of them. As Alaric hugged his kin, his brother at least gave him a strong hug back, his strength surely had increased since the last time that he saw him. In their hug, it felt like time stopped and they were kids once again. There were so many memories that Alaric could look back on and be happy for. So many time had Ric helped out his little brother out of countless situations that he had kept silent from their parents so save Elias’s ass. Ric loved his brother to no bounds and now that he was back, his love was rekindled all over again and he wanted nothing but to talk about their lives until the break of dawn like they would used to. Elias had every right to be mad at Ric and he was expecting something, but so far, he was just quiet about it and appeared to be nervous.
Alaric’s hands even started sweating as the nervousness grew within. As they pulled back from the hug, both of them seemed to be on the brink of losing it completely and bursting into tears and apologies. Alaric hadn’t dealt with his emotions like this in a while. Now that he was a vampire, he was able to push his human emotions away if he really cared to, but no. Alaric loved and hated the feelings that he was experiencing right now seeing his little brother all over again. Elias then grinned at Ric as he tried to apologize, every little movement and gesture made him happier and more thrilled within. God, he felt like such a female and a human. Ric was a vampire, vampire hunter and a father now all at once...What a twisted life the man had and always would have. Well, at least it kept things interesting. Eli didn’t blame Ric for not keeping communication because it went two ways, he nodded because that was true. But he understood that Eli had a life and was growing up and experiencing the world for himself.
When questioned why he was there, his brother asked there as in Mystic Falls or the event, Ric was going to answer him before Eli figured out what he was asking for and answered his own question. Ric’s eyes widened when he said that he was out there in Mystic Falls in hope of finding Alaric. ”Well, I guess you found me....” He trailed off and took a step back as well. The weather was starting to bite harder, but with his leather jacket and his dead body, heat these days wasn’t needed. ”I wanted to look for you sooner...but I was going through a lot...in this town.” He was lightly hinting that this town wasn’t as it seemed. So much did he want to spill everything..but he was going to do just that. ”Would you like to sit down somewhere and get a coffee or brew or something?” Alaric hesitated lightly, so much dying to spill everything as well as learn about his brothers life so far. ”I hope you’re staying for a while..” He lowered his head. ”I’ve truly missed you and regret not keeping in touch, I could use a best friend and some support right now.” Though Damon was his best friend in a way, no one could compare to a blood relationship, especially since in their past, they were so closely knit.

See that was the thing about brothers, and well perhaps siblings in general, they were the people that you shared (willingly or not), pretty near everything with. They were the people who were there when you fell, they were there when you were on top of the world, and...Well, they were, the people you could always fall back on. Once your parents were gone? They were all you had. At the end of the day, they were your support system during the rough times, your biggest fans during the good times, and yeah perhaps from time to time even your worse enemies. Naturally all siblings fought from time to time, they let each other down, and perhaps even fell out of contact for ten plus years.
But they always came back to one another. Or, rather that’s how it should be. Granted there were a number of exceptions (as there was for just about everything), but that’s how it was suppose to work out. And in their case, it was exactly how it was going to work out, even if it killed both of them in the process, Elias wasn’t spending another ten years without his brother in his life.
Elias grinned at his brother’s remark, “Did I now? And here I was starting to wonder if you were a figment of my imagination brought on by back indigestion.” he teased, letting go of the last of his nervous energy. God damn it, they weren’t strangers and it was high time they stopped acting like it. “And hey, try not to look so surprised would ya. You can’t honestly believe that I WOULDN’T look for you,” he added, before shrugging slightly at his brother’s next words, “Alaric, stop I meant what I said, it’s a two way street. Yeah, you know I was more than a little pissed at first but shit happens. I get it, we’ll just have to pick up where we left off, and make an effort to actually keep in contact this time.” he finishes.
The way Alaric had said his last words made Elias give him a curious look. Eli knew some of the more...Interesting tales of the town, but mostly what the news papers reported. After moving here, he had done some research about the town, reading up on its colorful past. Most of it had to be bogus though, just stories created by the early founders to scare children, which had eventually made their way into the history books as old legends and such. Something though about the way Ric had said “this town” though perked his interest.
Still lost in a thought about what THAT could possibly mean, Elias nearly missed his brother’s next question. Shaking his head slightly to clear away the absurd conspiracy theories and fairytale that were bouncing around in his mind, he blinked once before speaking, “Huh? Oh, yeah sure, he replies, his recovery not quite as smooth as it could have been....Well not even close. But, eh whatever. He had never really been good at the whole caught off guard recovery thing. “Yeah, coffee sounds good, ” he tried again, yep. Still lame, but whatever, it wasn’t like Alaric hadn’t experienced the lame side of his little brother on occasion...Well, more often then occasion actually...
He shoved his hands into his pockets as he nodded at his brother’s remark about him sticking around for a while, “Yeah, I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, I actually live not far outside of town,” he tells him with another nod, “Just out past, I’m pretty sure it’s called Wickery Bridge? Anyways, long story short I guess, you’re stuck with me for a bit.” he tells him, his suspicions returning as Ric mentioned he needed a best friend and support. He nodded though before resting a hand on his brother’s shoulder lightly, “Well, that’s what brother’s are for right? Come on, let’s get that coffee, then you’re going to tell me exactly what’s on your mind, because honestly Ric? I’ve talked to you for a grand total of five minutes now, and something’s eating its way through that mind of yours, and I don't like it. ” he tells him seriously before smiling softly, “ Plus after that we have 10 years of catching up to do, we’re probably going to need more than one coffee each now that i think of it..”

After Alaric remarked that Elias had finally found his brother, Elias teased him to say that perhaps he thought Ric was a figment of his imagination brought on by indigestion. He couldn’t help but to smirk a bit and then smile, the air between them was starting to thin out and become clear once again. It was the best anyone could hope for and it was all thanks to his little brother who was nervous, but at least was making an effort now to clear things up and reunite their old bond. Alaric was nervous, but he wasn’t going to make the scene so awkward that they would just have to walk away from one another because they had nothing to say. Elias was mature and was not harboring anger towards his older brother, though Alaric truly deserved it. Elias then told him to try to not look so surprised, because did he honestly believe that he wouldn’t look for him? Alaric rubbed the back of his neck in thought, to be honest, he may not have thought about his brother until something or someone brought it up. He thought his brother went on with his life and they moved on. Though seeing him now, he realized how much he really needed his other half.
Trying to apologize once again, Eli told him to stop because it was a two-way street, just as he said before. He admitted that he was pissed off in the beginning, who wouldn’t? Then he noted that shit happens, that was truly an understatement in Alaric’s life up to this point. Mentioning that the two would have to pick up where they left off and make an effort to keep in contact this time, Ric nodded his head and smiled gently. He wished he would be able to keep in contact and this time, he would make sure that he would. Though, if his life was ever threatened in any way, Ric may have to cut off communication in order to keep him safe. Hell, he was an all-powerful original now, he could protect his little brother to the best of his ability, even if it killed him. Alaric was all about protecting his family, and now that his blood family had returned, the urge to protect with all that he was, was even stronger. Hopefully Elias was in town, or somewhere near Mystic Falls so that he could actually see him, instead of trying to have a relationship over the phone.
Making the hint about the town had instantly sparked a curious look on Eli, just like Ric hoped it would. Alaric pulled his leather jacket closer together in order to shield himself from the cold air as the wind blew snowflakes and little bits of snow gently into his face. After asking if his brother wanted to sit down for some coffee, Eli seemed a bit dazed, perhaps trying to figure out his previous hint, but said that coffee sounded good, so coffee it was. Nodding, Alaric took a few steps back and spoke. ”Sounds good..I know a little place that is open in the late hours of the night...” He noted quietly, nervous of the things he would have to tell him about soon once they reached the shop. Alaric asked if his brother was in the area for a while, a smile arose on his face when he said that he wasn’t going anywhere soon and he lived past Wickery Bridge and that Ric was stuck with him for a bit. ”I don’t mind it at all, gives us a while to catch up.” Among other things. Saying how he could use a best friend and support, his brother’s face regained that curious look once again.
A warm hand was placed on his shoulder and he listened as Elias figured out that something was on Ric’s mind that was eating away at him and Eli didn’t like it. Ric sighed before shoving his own hands in his pockets. His brother could easily sense something was wrong, but Ric was also dropping hints that there was a major problem. If only he could say it easily and it wasn’t a hard concept to grasp. ”Yes, a lot is eating at me lately...if you only knew..” He paused and then laughed lightly when Elias said that since they had 10 years of catching up to do, they would need more than one cup of coffee to get everything out there. ”Yeah, we will, or just sip slowly.” He teased and chuckled lightly before he turned around and urged Elias to come next to him as he led them to the coffee shop. ”Come on, let’s get going. And I can pay.” Ric started walking towards the shop, it wasn’t too far. After a few minutes of walking, he whipped around a corner and there was the small shop with an “open” sign illuminating in the window. Smiling, he opened the door and let Elias walk in first before he walked in. Finding the nearest table, he took a seat and waited for the waitress to take their orders.

Elias nodded as Ric suggested the small spot he knew. Something told Eli that small in this case was going to be a good thing, there was just something...Yeah, there was no reason to really dwell on the whys at this moment, Ric would tell him soon enough. He smirks at his brother’s words, “that we do,” he agrees with a small, slight nod. To be honest, although Elias didn’t have much to tell, his life had been pretty uneventful over the last ten years, he found himself wanting to tell his brother everything. He wanted Alaric to know what life had dished out to him, and he wanted (for whatever reason) to show his brother he wasn’t the eighteen year old kid Ric had left behind when he left.
In some ways, Elias hadn’t changed. He was still a music freak, hell bent and determined to make it in the country music scene. He still had a kick ass sense of humor, but he was a little more mature as well. He no longer believed everything to be a joke like he had growing up. He kept the practical jokes to a minimum, and when he did pull them? Very rarely now was he caught, his process had been greatly refined.
As far as what has been going on with Ric went, it really didn’t matter what kind of bombshell Ric tossed at him, Elias had made up his mind to stay and help his brother the best he could. Regardless of the problem, or the solution, well within reason as far as the solution went. Murder, torture that kind of thing? Not something Elias would get into, for anyone. However, he had a feeling that that wasn’t going to be the case. No, Alaric couldn’t have gotten himself into anything THAT bad could he? The first answer to come to his mind was no, of course not. The second one, you never really know...
Eli tilted his head slightly at his brother’s words, frowning slightly. Ah, that didn’t sound good, not good at all...His over active imagination was running wild with that bit of information, all the scenarios probably no where’s close to what if could be. He ran a hand through his now damp hair before nodding. A small smile crossing his features at the coffee comment “Yeah, because that’s going to happen,” he says with a chuckle. After spending nearly six years doing ranch work, slowly sipping coffee was not something Elias did well...Hell, he wasn’t sure he could drink coffee slowly anymore. When you had to get up and go? You learned to pretty much chug the stuff and get back to work.
But then you also learned that it was indeed possible to just live off of it some days.
“Well, you’re just going to have to tell me then aren’t you? he says with a smile as he turns to follow his brother, “and FYI, you don’t have to pay for me.” he points out before falling quiet. For a few moments, it was just the crunching of snow under their feet that made any sound. It wasn’t an overly long walk, for which Elias was thankful. He didn’t like being out of the loop on anything, especially if it involved his loved ones, and more so if it was nothing good. That just wasn’t his style, he was too much of a soft hearted and sensitive person sometimes. He always had to be able to help. It was kind of annoying actually. “Thanks.” he says as he steps into the shop, and follows his brother over to the booth and sliding in opposite Alaric. Elias gives the waitress a smile as she came over to take their orders, a smile that at one point in high school had made him popular with the girls. Actually, it still did most times and Elias couldn’t help but find it slightly amusing. As the waitress leaves to put in the order, Elias turns to his brother, watching him for a moment before speaking, “Alright Ric, spill it. What’s going on? Or been going on as the case may be? ” he asks him.

Telling Elias that the two would simply just have to sip their coffee slower in order to make it through the night, Eli smiled and told him that probably wasn’t going to happen. Alaric shrugged, feeling a bit silly. ”Well, drink as many cups as you’d like, I’m not stopping you.” Alaric lightly teased him before trying to think of something better to say. Yes their conversation would outlast the time it took to drink down a cup of coffee, but at least it was a starting point. Ric wasn’t even sure how to spill out everything...there was just too much and if Elias didn’t have a clue about the existence of supernatural creatures, then their conversation would be a short one as Eli would stare at Ric like he was insane...yeah, he got that look plenty times before. So much did he hope that his little brother would at least try to understand the words and situations he was soon going to explain to him. Nodding, he agreed that he was just going to have to tell Elias everything. The nervousness began to creep up within.
Declining the offer to pay for his coffee, Alaric quietly replied. ”It would be my pleasure, trust me, it’s no hassle. A simple gift. If you want to call it that.” Paying for his coffee was just a kind gesture, nothing more or less. Of course buying him a cheap cup of coffee wasn’t going to make up for all of the time they spent apart, and nor did Alaric try to turn it into that either. It was just a simple and small thing he could do for his little brother, since Alaric was the one who proposed the idea in the first place. The two of them fell quiet for the remainder of the walk there, the only thing that could be heard was the crunching of snow and ice under their powerful feet and the beating of Elias’s young heart, which only Alaric could hear as if he had his head pressed to his chest. Alaric pushed away his urges to feed for now, besides, it seemed only vampire blood could satisfy his endless blood lust. Once they headed inside, they both slid into the booth on opposite sides of one another as the waitress came over. ”A coffee with some Kalua....” Ric couldn’t help but ask for a shot of alcohol, he was going to need it before the night was through and hopefully Elias didn’t mind it....
As the waitress who had eyes for Elias had left, the two stayed in silence for a little before Eli broke the silence and started their conversation. Sighing, he looked up at his brother and asked, ”What do you know about supernatural creatures? Vampires..werewolves...and creatures like that? ....Do you believe they exist in our world? Alaric’s eyes studied his brother intently, trying to see if he was going to fear his words or actually think honestly about his question before thinking his brother was a nut job, as most people did anyway. Well, even if he did call him crazy, he wouldn’t be entirely wrong about it. He placed his hands on the table along with his elbows as he looked around the coffee shop to find it empty for the time being, since the event outside was keeping most of the people busy. If Elias was going to completely call Alaric insane, he was now a vampire, so asking for proof and coming through with it wouldn’t be all that difficult.

Elias just accepted his brothers wish to buy coffee, he wasn’t about to start an argument over a silly cup of coffee. After ten years of separation, it really wouldn’t do to start a fight over a cup of coffee now would it? Eli made no comment about the kahlua his brother had asked for, wasn’t his thing to be honest (it was actually a kind of girly way of drinking if he was being a hundred percent honest), but whatever. To each his own right?
His blue eyes studied his brother, waiting for him to explain what was going on. It didn’t take long, and Elias was a little surprised at Ric’s questions. He blinked unintelligently, for a moment before speaking, “Umm, well...” he started before trailing off. Yeah, ok the idea that his brother would ask what Eli knew about supernatural creatures was a little bizarre, but not completely insane. The idea that he would ask if Elias believed in them...Well, there was only one real answer to that one, wasn’t there?
He cleared his throat and started again, “I know most of the old myths and legends that are floating around, since I took a course in university on it, ” he says with a shrug, “So, I know a bit I suppose,” he adds before taking a moment to tackle the second question. As he hesitated, the waitress came back with their coffee, smiling again at her Elias thanked her before actually turning his attention to his brother’s question, “Their myth’s Ric, I mean I suppose it’s possible. I mean it’s not like we know of every species that exists on this planet....But,” he shrugs and takes a sip of coffee, “Besides the old stories that are generations old, there’s no proof that Vampires, or werewolves or anything like that do exist.” He points out.
He regarded his brother closely for a moment, before talking a sip of coffee and leaning forward, his blue eyes uncharacteristically serious for what was probably the first time in his life, “A question of my own then before we get to far into this.” he says before pausing for a second, then continuing, “How much of this am I actually going to believe?” He asks him after a moment before shaking his head, “Actually, don’t answer that, just...Go on with it Ric, and realize that although I’m pretty sure I’m going to believe your insane by the end of it, I’ll hear you out. ” he says with a nod before sitting back and waiting.

Dark eyes studied Elias, hoping that the questions he posed wouldn’t make Elias run out of the building screaming that Alaric was insane. It was just a simple question and depending on the way that Elias would answer help set the basis for how Alaric would continue to talk to him. After all, Eli did want the truth about what was on Ric’s mind and so what was he to do? Lie about everything and say it was all just fine, even though they haven’t seen one another in ten years? Now, he owed his brother enough to be honest about what was going on. Elias didn’t have to accept his words though, he could simply take his words and walk out of the building and just ignore the fact of supernatural creatures surrounding them in that town and the true fact that his brother was a vampire that was technically unkillable now. After asking the question, Eli started off slow in his answer before clearing his throat and explained that he knew about most of the myths and legends because he took a course on it. Ric nodded his head, his brother learned about beasts the easy way....Unlike Ric, he had to learn about the ugly creatures firsthand, as his wife became so infatuated with them and even gave her life to become a vampire.
A small spark of jealously arose in his mind about his brother, since their parents payed for his college and what not. Elias was the baby, so that was expected. But it was Ric who ran off and decided to get married at a young age anyway, he didn’t really care too much for school, but now he was starting to regret that. Pushing those thoughts away as the waitress came around and placed the coffee on the table, Ric thanked her before picking up his mug and easily sniffing out the alcohol in it. Of course it was a girly type of alcohol he had poured in his drink, but since he was alive forever, why not try all types of combinations instead of sticking to his whiskey? Besides, he didn’t want to get drunk or buzzed at all, it was just to have some type of alcohol in his drink. The silence fell over the brothers until the waitress left and then Elias finally came right out to say that they were myths, though he supposed they could be possible because they did not know every type of creature on the planet. Ric nodded lightly, eyes were skeptical, wondering how he would make his way around his brothers words. His little brother’s next words had almost annoyed him, saying such a college thing as he said that no proof existed that any such creatures existed.
Alaric cleared his throat as he remained silent and took a sip of his coffee and his eyes drew back onto his brother once again. Then something odd happened, his brother leaned in and his eyes fell serious. That was something that usually never happened...so this could only mean that Elias was really hoping that Ric wasn’t asking these questions because these creatures really did exist....Or that was at least how Alaric interpreted it as Elias asked his own question about how much of his brothers words he was actually going to believe. A smirk rose at the corner of his lips before his brother took back his question and urged him to continue, though he would find Ric insane by the end of everything. As his brother sat back and waited for Ric to continue, he started to speak as he leaned in close over the table. ”You believe as much as you want to believe. Just know, that I’ve seen things that give one the “proof” they need to believe in such creatures.” It almost was saddening to hear how his brother right off the bat was just going to assume that Ric was crazy...but now he would prove him wrong. Looking over his shoulder to see that the waitress was in the back occupied, he had looked back to his brother with black blood lustful eyes as the dark veins underneath his eyes started to creep up. His face remained calm and his fangs started to enlongate. ”Here’s your proof for vampires...” Ric then closed his eyes and the veins disappeared as did the fangs before he opened his eyes back to a blue/green color and smiled devilishly at his brother....”I won’t hurt you...but I need you to believe me so that I can actually go on with what’s been happening for the last ten years...”

Insane was a bit much, it really was. It wasn’t like Elias was going to commit his brother to the mental institution or anything, just...Well, supernatural creatures and such? They weren’t real, after all wasn’t part of what a myth or legend was? A fictional story with some basis in fact or something like that? Eli couldn’t pull the exact definition out of his mind right now, but whatever. Fact still remained that that part of it was they were fiction.
Elias picked up on Ric’s annoyance, with a small smirk. Yeah, yeah, the response had made him sound like he was fresh out of college, but it was true. There was no proof...Which now that he thought about it kind of made him sound like an idiot too. This day in age that’s what everyone fell back on, where’s your proof? You don’t have any? Couldn’t have happened then, could it? Yep, what was once the argument of the uneducated who refused to learn, was now the main stream answer to everything.
And Eli had just fallen into that, whoopee for him. Talk about making it look like he had wasted four years of his life in school, and his parents money just to learn nothing.
He ran a hand through his short, dark blond hair and nodded at his brother’s words, “Yeah, ok that didn’t come out exactly how...” he paused at Ric’s reference to having seen the proof, giving him a confused look that suggested he didn’t know where this was going, or if he even wanted to know. Yeah, perhaps the insane part needed to be rethought about... Not that he’d ever reject his brother or anything because of it, to each their own right? But..
Eli jumped about a foot in the air as Ric’s face changed, his blue eyes wide as he tried to comprehend exactly what it was he had just witnessed. He just looked for a moment, a mixture of shock, and confusion mixing on his features, giving him a kind of dopey and almost stupid look. He blinked once, twice and a third time before closing his eyes and shaking his head. Ooook this was NOT happening, nope, time to wake up now...Please?
He spared himself a pinch on the arm, no need to go that far with the joke.
Alaric’s words didn’t register at first, and again Elias just looked at him. The idea that this was actually happening just didn’t register in him mind, it couldn’t be. Impossible right? Nope, guess not. He took a deep breath and just nodded, “Alright umm...” he trailed off again, running a hand through his hair, “Ok...” he nods and takes another breath, trying to calm his nerves down, his heart still racing. He bites his lip thoughtfully for a moment, “Ok, well...I got nothing, nothing at all...” he says again as he takes a sip of coffee, and looks down at the table, trying to process everything.
His head snaps up at Alaric’s next words, “I know you won’t hurt me,” he tells him quickly. Odd, that even though he had just been told that the stuff of nightmares were real, and his brother was one of them, that he still trusted Ric a hundred and ten percent. It was something long ingrained into the younger of the two brothers, Ric had never led him astray before, and had never let anything happen to him. Perhaps it was naive, and perhaps it was stupid (especially since he had no doubt that blood was probably a dietary necessity for him now...Human blood more to the point), but he still trusted him with his life. He would have if Ric just finished telling him he had a thing for babies blood and virgins too...Or something equally as ludicrous. To Elias it seemed weird that Alaric even had to tell him he was safe, that he wasn’t going to hurt Elias.
Elias nod as Ric stops talking, “Yeah, ok...I....” he trails off and takes another sip of coffee, “Look, to be honest Ric, I have no idea what exactly just happened, and I kind of feel like everything I thought I knew was just chucked out the window and lit on fire so. ” He shrugged and sighed, “I dunno, I really don’t. This just does not compute right now, so I suggest you just start from the beginning and explain what the hell is going on.|” he says. His tone not angry, or frightened by the news, more curious then anything.

Elias tried to take back his snarky words about how there was no proof, but that was when Alaric cut him off and told him that he did have proof that such creatures did exist. It was proof that a vampire existed and if he needed more proof, the whole town was filled with beings that would be happy to show what they truly were under the human that they tried to play as. Proof would be offered on all ends of Mystic Falls, and even most parts of the world if Elias would just have opened his eyes and truly searched for it instead of just taking a college class on it and deeming everything a myth because they didn’t bring a supernatural creature for show-and-tell that day. Alaric smirked in his mind at the thought, but he should give his brother a break. He went to college and tried to make something of himself and get a job that actually paid the bills...unlike being a vampire hunter that was more about personal emotional gain than monetary gain.
Just as Alaric’s face had transformed, his little brother almost jumped out of the booth entirely. It was a natural reaction, but it could almost make him laugh. Elias’ eyes went wide and confusion ran over his face. It almost appeared as if he was going to throw up or pass out, but it didn’t lead to that. It was just shock and confusion, though there was really no fear. Hmm, it showed that Elias could handle more than he thought he possibly could. Once his face changed back to its original state, his brother just stared at him like he had no brain to think with. Alaric just looked at him with eyes risen as his little brother tried to utter a few words, attempting to start and finish a sentence, but not quite getting there each time. Poor guy, he really did not know what to think of what his eyes just saw, his mind was not able to comprehend it, since it was something entirely new and out of this world. It wasn’t normal so it came to a complete shock.
Alaric could hear his heart beating almost out of his chest before he took a sip of coffee, which would only make his heart race even more. But as Alaric noted that he wouldn’t hurt Elias, he replied so confidently that he knew Ric wouldn’t hurt him. Alaric tilted his head in confusion. ”Vampires aren’t cuddly puppies. You should never trust a vampire...but I held onto my humanity, and though I feed from vampires and humans, I don’t kill them...” He almost was shocked that his brother knew that Alaric wouldn’t hurt him, but at the same time he felt trusted by his little brother after so many years of being absent in his life. Though it was better that Elias would fear vampires instead of actually thinking that they were friendly and fed off of animals and sparkled. Once he stopped talking, he came out and said that he wasn’t sure exactly what happened and so he would like if Ric just started from the beginning. He voice was just curious, not fearful or angry, which was baffling in and of itself. Ric simply nodded and began. ”Well, ten years ago...”
Fade to black... [/i][/center] Sighing after speaking so much, he looked up at his brother. Ric finished his third cup of coffee by now and wondered what his brother thought about him and his life now. ”So...do you have any questions about anything?” Ric asked, but then after mentioning Lexi Branson and how she was resurrected from the dead, his mind flickered to Jenna Sommers... his eyes then widened and he wondered if Jenna was going to show up back into his life as a vampire anytime soon. If she did, it would stir up a lot of problems.[/blockquote]

Elias shrugged off his brother’s warning about vampire. Yeah, no doubt Ric was right, vampires didn’t top the list of the top ten cuddliest pets or anything like that. However, in this case it was different this was Ric, this was Elias’s brother. Growing up Ric had always been his biggest defender and unlike other brothers, he had never hurt him. Not mentally, not physically. Never. So, yeah he trusted his brother, and he would until given a reason not to.
“To be honest Ric, if you told me that Twilight actually got it right, and you sparkled in the sun and drank from bunnies? I’d lose a little respect for you Bro, just saying,” he tells him before considering his words and shaking his head, “Actually, I wouldn’t look down on you for the bunny thing, since I suppose it’s better than the alternative.” he says with a small frown, and then adding, “You are different than the rest, I trust YOU not your...Is species the right word? Well, even so you know what I mean.”
The story Ric told him sounded like it had its route in someone’s meth induced dream. Not even a fairy tale (horror story more like it actually), a frigging wacked out dream brought on by some severe drug use. As he listened though, Elias found himself believing every word his brother told him. It was strange, not ten minutes ago he wouldn’t have believed a word of what he was saying, after Ric’s little demo though...
Most people would have wanted more proof, but Elias was not stupid enough to push that again. Besides, he was one of those guys who was actually very easy to convince of just about anything. He had a healthy amount of skepticism to him, but he was open minded. Anything was possible right? After seeing Ric go through whatever the hell that was, Eli believed the sentiment that much more.
He just blinked and watched his brother for a moment after he finished him, and asked if he had any questions. “Who wouldn’t have questions?” he mutters to himself, playing with his coffee cup and processing what he had just heard. “To be a hundred and ten percent honest Ric, the first question that comes to mind is what the hell are you smoking? And then it would have to be why aren’t you sharing, however...” he trials off and shrugs, “You know, oddly enough I believe you, and I really just don’t know. It’s kind of a lot to take in, ” he finishes putting his hands in the air and shrugging, “Your gonna have to get back to me on that, because my mind is going a million miles a minute right now, and I just...” he sighs, “I need time to digest this, I’m not saying I don’t believe you, because I do. I really and truly do Ric but...You gotta admit it’s a lot to take, and it does sound insane when you’ve spent your whole life believing otherwise.” He drops his hands and closes his eyes, shaking his head with a sigh, “Look, your my brother, I accept what you are and believe you, but yeah. It’s going to take some time, I take it I can ask any questions as they come up?” He asks as he looks back at his brother.
