Humans these days were not so much into books. These days it was all about reading on things called computers, tablets, or phones. However, there was something about how the books smelled, or how the pages felt in your hand that was so magical. Honestly, she found it fascinating how writers had such an imagination when putting their words into print. She liked more of the literature side of the book store. Anything Non-fiction was nothing that was news to her. She knew about the past of the world, about all the humans that walked it, or how many types of birds there were in South America. It was all about bringing her to some sort of fantasy place. It was interesting how many books were marked fiction but actually spoke the truth, of demons and angels, vampires and werewolves. Those were her favorite. There was even a book called Twilight that she thought was the most hysterical inaccurate representation of the supernatural ever. Gabrielle was at a bookstore called Barnes and Noble every Tuesday. She never used the front door, just merely appeared in the woman’s restroom. It was usually because she was so excited to get there and read another book that she didn’t want to walk. It was as if Brielle had some sort of routine. At first, she moved from aisle to aisle, merely running her fingers over the spines and each and every book. She would then find her in the Fiction section. It took her almost an hour to pick out the perfect book. It was then that she stood right there, at the bookshelf, and read the entire book. Now, she was a quick reader, since she was an Angel. However, it did take her a good couple of hours to do so.
Once again, she found herself in the same section this Tuesday. This time she was wearing a blue dress with a white short sleeve sweater. She was wearing flip flops, mainly because she normally was barefoot, but knew that she wouldn’t be allowed in the store if she did. Her face was natural, mainly because Gabrielle didn’t know how to use makeup. Her hair was pulled to one side as it hung below her chest. This time around she was reading a story called Frankenstein. Brielle was simply in love with it. Smiling greatly at the book, she stood in the corner, turning a page every couple of seconds or so.
“Hey.. that chick is back..” One of Alex’s coworkers pointed out. “She is here, like every week. She always picks one book. I think she even manages to read it all but never buys anything..”

[/img] Alex was resting behind one of the help desks with his feet up on the desk and his hands placed on the keyboard of the computer. He was staring at the screen with an intense concentration. One might think that he was actually doing his job, but no, of course not. Alex had worked with the company long enough so that he was now one of the floor managers, which meant that he could now get away with things that most of the other employees really were not able to get away with. Like playing Tetris on the computer when the customers really didn’t need his help. “ Not now, Jim! I’m doing something very serious here,” he said, tapping the keys as the blocks started to come down faster and faster,” Besides, what’s the harm? Blast!” He had finally reached the top once Jim broke his concentration. “ Alex, it-it’s against regulations. You know better than anyone that if we see someone doing that, we need to put a stop to it.” Alex folded his hands in his lap and rolled his head back as he sighed. “ Oh, very well. I’ll go talk to her, shall I? ” he got up and clapped the employee on the back. After straightening his tie, he wandered over to where the girl was reading her book. Alex really didn’t agree with the whole “no reading allowed inside the store rule.” Well – it was allowed, but just strongly frowned upon. " Ah, Frankenstein. Shelley certainly had an imagination, didn't she? Are you a fan of the classic horrors?" he asked, conversationally as he put his hands in his pockets. [/blockquote]

Brielle was getting to the best part of the story. In fact, she was almost finished with it when someone had approached her. She hadn’t been paying attention much. Usually just moving from side to side when people got annoyed when she was standing in front of the shelf. If there was no one around, Brielle was pretty much a statue except when turning the page. It was as if she was immersed in the story, and she liked that. That was until she could hear footsteps coming towards her. This just wasn’t another patron wanting her to move or commenting on her questionable taste in clothing. No, this was someone that was going to talk to her.
At first she noticed that it was one of the people that worked there. Gabrielle slightly frowned into the book, hiding her face behind the pages. It was probably not allowed to stand there and read the books, even though she had done it week after week. However, buying the books required human money. I’m sure she could make some simply appear in her hand, but she didn’t like the concept of money. She didn’t want to own the book, she wanted to read it. Besides, she wanted to make sure to put it back so someone else could read it. All humans needed to read more books.
However, he didn’t ask her to leave. On the contrary, he was asking about the book. “I find any literature fascinating, but horror is also very intriguing. I like how the monster was human but sad how no one could see past the monster part of him. There is always more to someone than just their exterior, don’t you think?” She asked, putting the book on the shelf before finally getting a good look at the man in front of her.
It was then that she felt something she never felt before. Her heartbeat quickened as slight pink color rose to her cheeks. It was as if she couldn’t form words. “I.. uh.. I’m sorry.. I suppose I shouldn’t be standing here reading the books.. I’m not used to human.. er.. I mean.. “ She fumbled. Not really sure what to say. Slowly she just extended her hand. “My name is Brielle.”

[/img] Alex raised his eyebrows and leaned forwards a bit when the girl just raised the book and seemed to cover her face with it. Perhaps she was shy… Alex never really understood why people were shy in just everyday conversation. After all, what was there to be embarrassed about? He couldn’t possibly be that intimidating, could he? Alex cleared his throat and carefully touched his tie, unsure of what to do with his hands, which was a bad habit of his. He glanced around, not quite sure what to do. “ Er…miss?” he asked, biting his lip. He was uncharacteristically speechless at what the woman said next. It seemed to hit spot on regarding what had recently happened to him. This was one reason why he was insistent on not letting anyone in on this little secret. People would see the monster and not the man. “ Yes, quite right,” he said with a nod, once he found his voice again,” After all, the poor thing just wanted a little love in his life.” This conversation brought to mind a few similarities that Alex had never really noticed between himself and Frankenstein’s monster. Granted, his monstrous tendencies weren’t quite as obvious as The Monster’s…but still. “ I’m afraid people are a little too quick to judge. It’s an unfortunate human trait that most people had,” he said with a shake of his head. Alex froze when the girl suddenly turned to look at him. His breath momentarily caught in his throat as he took in the girl’s full appearance. She was…she was lovely. This emotion was one that he experienced quite often, but this time seemed…different somehow. He smiled when she extended her hand, after being momentarily confused as to what she was about to say. “ Brielle,” he said, gently taking her hand,” That’s a lovely name. I’m Alex.” He released her hand and gave a short bow of his head. “Yes…um, yes. Reading in the store is slightly frowned upon. I usually look over it, since I don’t really have a problem with it, but one of the other employees was a bit concerned. Um…are you interested in purchasing that book?”[/blockquote]

Brielle could sense what he was. Yet, she wasn’t going to just say it out loud. That was one of the abilities of being an Angel, she guessed. She knew that he was a werewolf. The very thought of it intrigued her. She never saw a problem with other species other than demons. Gabrielle only disliked demons because she was taught to hate them and they did some pretty mean stuff. Things like werewolves on the other hand believed it was a curse, and try their best to remain human. Of course there was a sad few that gave into the beast, yet the man standing in front of her hardly looked evil. In fact, a part of Brielle wanted to learn all about him. She only guessed bombarding him with a million and one questions would be rude in this society. So she refrained… from now.
“Love. Oh right, that was the word I was looking for. I have read many books here, and a lot of them talked about love, but I still don’t seem to understand it. I guess Frankenstein’s monster had a trouble with that too. “ Brielle shrugged, moving to put the book exactly where it belonged. She was so delicate with the pages that it still looked brand new, as her eyes moved to look for something else to read before grabbing another book. This one happened to be about angels and demons fighting each other. Probably another inaccurate read, but it did make for a good laugh.
“Ah yes. Judgement. I know that very well. Humans are just not used to change I found. They have this way of looking at the world that they fail to see what is right in front of them. If they would only just look. Perhaps it is the fact that they are so unknowing is what I love about them. That they just can’t believe until I can show them. Then again, most people seem to just be even more afraid after that..” Gabrielle rambled. She was never particularly quiet about what she was. There was no need to hold that secret in her opinion. She wanted everyone to know exactly what she was, because that is what made Gabrielle, Gabrielle. She wasn’t going to pretend to be something she wasn’t.
Brielle smiled as she shook his hand. Apparently it wasn’t a good idea to read the books in the shop. “Oh I apologize. I’m kind of new at this. I didn’t want to purchase them because I wanted other people to be able to read them. I don’t need the possessions, I’m still trying to get used to owning things. All I wanted to do is read them, but I can buy them if I need to.” Brielle said, holding out her hand. Where there was once thin air, was now a wad of cash. “Is this what you require? I believe this is the currency this country uses, then again, I always got things a bit mixed up.”

[/img] “ Yes, love is a common theme in most literature. I suppose since it’s something that most people yearn to have and experience,” he said with a shrug of his shoulders. Love was something that Alex particularly wanted in his life. Not familial love so much, as he had a very good relationship with everyone in his family. Well…safe for his younger sister, Marie, especially not after he had been bitten by the werewolf. Marie had certain people that she deemed qualified for her to spend time with and werewolves were not listed in that category. Family or not. “ The poor fellow just wanted Dr. Frankenstein to make him a bride. Someone that was like him, you know. Someone that would understand him – that he might have something in common with,” he said, nodding his head along as he spoke, his gaze wandering off to the side. He fell silent and returned his gaze to Brielle’s face when she began to talk once again. Something about the way she spoke seemed a bit…odd to him. He tilted his head to the side as he listened to what she had to say. She seemed to be speaking about humans as if they were a separate group from herself. “ A bit of a scholar of humanity, are you?” he asked with a grin and a nod. Once again, Alex was caught a bit off guard by Brielle’s strange wording of things. “ Er – well, yes, but you don’t have to buy the book if you really don’t want to. Um…are you…not from around here?” he asked, his curiosity spurred on by the mention of possessions and her comment about the money.[/blockquote]

“Have you ever loved?” Brielle asked. She wasn’t aware that it could have been a touchy subject, that something she should not of asked. “I would like to. I know it doesn’t happen like it does in these books. I have seen it though. Walking while holding hands. The moon and stars. Dancing…” Brielle grinned, holding the book to her chest, and twirling in the aisle as if there was music around. Yet there wasn’t, it was just something she did when she was happy. She liked to dance. She liked to be herself. She liked being more human.
“Well you don’t exactly have to be the same to love. There is this one couple that I had met. You could see that the two were worlds apart. Yet somehow they managed to find love. It was sad because she was having a hard time with her child. The doctors said that only one or the other could survive. But I fixed that. It is one of the stories that I like to tell. That should be in books actually. Much better than of what some people define different species. It certainly isn’t fiction.” Brielle had a tendency to ramble whenever someone was there to listen to her. She just liked talking and sharing because no one really wanted to talk to her. She was weird and awkward. If only they knew that she wasn’t really human.
She looked at him confused when he asked if she was a scholar of humanity. “No I have no attended a educational institution. I did not know one could major in learning about humans. That is rather interesting. I will have to speak to these human majors. Perhaps they can tell me things that I do not know. Like what is the point of a cell phone or eating a hamburger.” She still was clinging the book to her, suddenly afraid she was going to scare him away. She hoped not. Brielle liked talking to him.
Gabrielle beamed when he asked if she wasn’t from around here. “Of course not. I am an Angel of the Lord. Well, was. The other angels didn’t like the fact that I loved humans too much. But I can’t help that. It’s such a loveable race. Even if you are not totally human, say a vampire… or a werewolf.” Holding out the wad of money, Brielle placed it in his hand. There was clearly enough money in the stack, almost 500 dollars worth. “Is that enough to purchase this book?”

[/img] Alex was a bit taken aback by Brielle’s blunt question. It usually wasn’t something that someone would just come out and ask someone – especially a perfect stranger. The subject was a bit of a sore one for Alex because he had been terribly unlucky in love. “ I have,” he said with a nod as he placed his hands back into his pockets,” It’s never been mutual, though, I’m afraid.” His past failures in love was not really something that he wished to spend a lot of his time thinking about, so he shook his head and forced the depressing thoughts out of his mind, replacing the smile on his face. He smiled a bit more naturally when he heard what Brielle said next. “ Well, perhaps Mr. Right will come into your life much sooner than you think,” he said with a smile and a nod. Alex listened carefully to Brielle’s story but he did a double take when she claimed to have fixed the situation for the family. “ Y-you fixed it?” he asked, raising his eyebrows,” How did you manage to do that?” He crossed his arms and looked at her, genuinely curious. Alex grinned and laughed slightly at Brielle’s confusion. “ Oh, no-” he started, but was cut off when the girl continued to speak. He sighed and dropped the subject. He was once again caught off guard by Brielle’s words. His eyes widened as she went from stating that she was an Angel of the Lord to (what he thought) was her accusing him of being a werewolf. “ How did you-” he started, but was cut off by Brielle shoving the moving into his hand. He looked down in shock as he shuffled through the dollars. " My word! The book is only $9.95. Er...here," he said, handing the money back to her," Come with me. I'll be your cashier." He felt slightly unnerved by what had just happened but he insisted on regaining his composure. Alex led her to a cash register station and got into position. He scanned the book and rested it back down on the table. " Now. Out of that," he said, pointing to the wad of cash," All you need is ten dollars."[/blockquote]

Brielle knew it was something that she should of asked. Humans were all about privacy it seems. They liked to keep everything bottled up. To her, doing so was never a good idea. You would just keep bottling it up until they explode. And yet, the man called Alex that stood in front of her still answered her question. He had loved, but it was never mutual. Gabrielle resisted the impulse to act why that was. She could see nothing wrong with him. He had a good heart. Perhaps women were a bit more complicated that it seemed to her. She would simply have to study them some more. Yet, Brielle guessed that people didn’t like to be studied, so there was the challenge in of itself.
When Alex talked about Mr. Right, Brielle simply blushed. “I don’t think that will happen any time soon. I’m still not too sure of what love is. I read it in the books, but it’s a human emotion that most of my kind doesn’t understand. Well, the majority of my kind are emotionless and cold, so I’m one of the black sheep I guess of the species.” She shrugged.
It was apparent that she was talking to much, since he was trying to reply to what she was saying but couldn’t. Folding her hands, she slightly looked down. “I’m sorry. I’m still not used to society.” However, he did seem to fumble with words when she admitted to him that she was an angel and that she knew that he was a werewolf. Alex cut her off though, when she had handed him the wad of cash. She really had no clue how to use it. Apparently it was a bit too much.
He had walked her over to the cash register to be the one to check her out. Looking at the money with a confused face, she pulled out one that read ten on the front and placed it on the counter. Gabrielle was slowly catching on that he did this to change the subject. She frowned. He probably didn’t believe her. No one did. Usually they just ran away or screamed at her. It was sort of not nice and made her feel sad.
“You don’t believe me. It’s okay, most people don’t here. I just thought that because you were different too that you might of understood.” Brielle felt defeated, picking up her book and not even waiting for change. She even left the stack of bills on the counter. All she wanted was the book. Holding it to her chest, she moved towards the exit. “Oh and don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me. I won’t tell anyone.”

[/img] Alex rubbed his chin thoughtfully only partially listening to what she was saying. “ I suppose love is something that one needs to experience before you can fully understand it. It’s a strong emotion and I suppose it’s a little difficult to understand if you haven’t full experienced it,” he said, finally lowering his hand from his chin. Love was something that he had pondered over quite a lot for obvious reasons. He really didn’t understand why the feeling was never mutual. There was a phase that he went to where he tried to perfect himself into becoming the “perfect man.” He should have known better, though. There was no such thing. “ It’s quite alright,” he said, waving his hand,” No need to apologize.” Unless he was saying something particularly important, Alex really didn’t mind being interrupted. After all, he was always ready to lend a willing ear. This girl had definitely struck a core with Alex. There was something about her that was just different and refreshing. He wanted to learn more about her, definitely. Alex could most definitely say that he’d never met anyone quite like her before. He accepted the ten dollar bill and was just about to give the girl her change when she spoke up. Immediately, he felt guilty. Could this really be possible? “ Ah, wait!” he said, leaping out from behind the counter and coming to a halt right in front of Brielle. “ I’m-I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean to offend you. I just – well, claiming to be an Angel of the Lord is a tall order. Not exactly someone that one might hear every day.” Alex wrung his hands together and thought for a moment. “ P-please, come with me,” he said, gently taking one of her hands and leading her towards the back of the store, where the offices were. He entered his office and after they were both inside, he shut the door again. Alex leaned against it and asked," Are you really an Angel of the Lord?"[/blockquote]

“Experience it…” Gabrielle repeated, looking even more confused with a slight tilt of her head. “And how does one experience love? I would like to. Don’t even really know how to start. Is it something like happiness and sadness that kind of comes and goes? Oh human emotions don’t make any sense to me, and I find that fascinating.” She pondered, slightly rocking on the balls of her feet as she thought about such a thing. Could angels find love? Well technically she was in a human vessel, and god had given her emotions. So she supposed she could.. she just didn’t know how.
Yet it didn’t matter, she wasn’t going to get her answer nor any more of a conversation from the human named Alex anyway. It seemed as though she had scared him away with being open about herself. She supposed she was wrong about him. Brielle was sure that he was a werewolf, but he didn’t seem to act like one. He acting as if he had some normal life, that he was trying not to be what he was cursed with. He was also trying to find a cure. Sadly, she could not heal lycanthropy. However, she can heal everything else about him if he wanted to. His physical and emotional pain. He was a curious human. Brielle liked him. She wanted to know more about him. She guessed the feeling wasn’t mutal.
It was then he did something that surprised her. Alex went after her, jumping over the counter to stop her from leaving the shop. He apologized. Apparently she was wrong. He didn’t want her to leave, he was just unsure of what she had been telling him. “No. I should be the one to apologize. I forget how… untrusting humans are when they encounter something different.”
Brielle smiled lightly as he took her hand to lead her into the back room. He had shut the door and leaned against it asking if she really was an angel. Her smile only grew. “Of course. I would show you my real self, because this is only a vessel but it can kind of be harmful to humans. Besides I like this vessel. She has nice clothes. Oh! I know! Want to see my wings?” Slowly, the shadow of her two sets of wings revealed behind her. Brielle frowned seeing that it was only their shadow and not the actual wings. “Oh right. I forgot. Only the shadow. What else can I do to prove to you? I’m a healer you know. I can heal you. Or make something appear. I know about your werewolf curse.”

[/img] Brielle posed some intriguing questions, none of which Alex felt capable of truly answering correctly. “ There’s really no mind or reason to experiencing love. It just sort of…happens. It definitely catches you off guard, let me tell you,” he said with a small laugh and shake of his head. He wished that there was a better answer that he could give her, but even more, he wished that there really was some way you could plan when you could fall in love. It would just make things so much easier. “ Hmm…I suppose it could be a mixture of happiness and sadness. Those are emotions you most definitely experience when you’re in love. For different reasons, obviously,” he said with a shrug. Before he was able to reply as to whether or not he really wanted to see her wings, two dark shadows revealed themselves from the girl’s shoulders. His gaze moved from her face to the dark winched-shaped things that had appeared behind her. His jaw dropped as he took in the full size of the wings. “ O-oh, my,” he said, putting his hand to his chest. He reached down his collar and pulled out a gold cross. “ There’s an angel in my office…you’re an angel,” he said, a grin spreading across his face. His smile slipped slightly when he heard her mention the curse and he let the cross drop so that it was hanging around his neck again. " Yes, I suppose you can sense that kind of thing. There - there wouldn't happen to be some sort of angelic way to cure it, would there?" he asked, trying not to get his hopes up.[/blockquote]

Gabrielle hated how her wings wouldn’t really show themselves. It was all a part of the punishment that she gets for leaving Heaven. Yet she had to. “They used to be beautiful. I loved my wings. They were a soft lavender color. Some angels had multiples heads, I didn’t. I was the most human like looking angel because of how my father made me. Yet we are not all so… nice. All of my brothers and sisters are cold. Most of the books you have in your shop are inaccurate. We may be great beings but the majority of us are not nice. Most of them hate humans. I can’t return because I love humans. They won’t let me.” She frowned but regained her smile again. “Yet it’s okay. Everything has a purpose right? Plus I found out what a milkshake is!”
Brielle watched him as he pulled out a small gold cross that hung around her neck. “What an interesting trinket!” She said, immediately walking up close to him, her wings gone. Her fingers lightly took the cross in her hand to examine it, unaware that she might have been invading his personal space. She studied it for a moment. “So you do believe in us.” She finally spoke, dropping the cross and taking a step back. She spun with happiness, her dress fluffing up as she did so.
However, her happiness is short lived. “I cannot cure Lycanthropy.” She finally said with a frown before moving close to him again. Slowly she placed her hands on his shoulders to look in his eyes. “Though I want to help. I promise to help you find a cure if you want. However, I want you to know that I like you just the way you are.”

[/img] Alex grinned with delight as Brielle explained her true form, but his smile slowly slid off of his face when she described how the majority of the angels were. “ Angels hate humans?” he asked, furrowing his brow. This was certainly shaking his faith quite a bit. Alex had always pictured angels as such caring and giving beings, but now he finds out that they won’t even accept one of their own back into Heaven? He unnecessarily straightened his tie and cleared his throat. Alex replaced his grin when she made the comment about the milkshakes. “ Ah, milkshakes truly are wonderful, aren’t they?” he asked with a nod. Before he knew what was happening, Brielle was right up next to him. He was taken off guard and pushed himself up against the door once again as she examined his cross. “ Indeed, I do,” he said with a nod,” I’ve done so ever since I was a child.” Despite the fact that they dabbled a bit in the supernatural aspect of life, the Garretts (all except for Marie) were all incredibly religious and took their faith very seriously. Alex nodded and lowered his head to look at his cross again. “ Ah. I thought not,” he said with a light shrug. He was right to not get his hopes up. Alex raised his gaze once again to look at Brielle when she put her hands on his shoulder. " You do? Do angels not have a poor opinion of-" he said, pausing when he realized he was about to say "monsters." No, no, that wasn't the correct word to use. " Er...beings...like me?"[/blockquote]

“Well hate is a strong word. I never like to use the word hate. Merely strong dislike. Angels strongly dislike humans. Angels were God’s perfect creations. Most angels think they are superior to humans in every way. However, it seems God has a soft spot for your kind. I guess it made them a bit jealous. I, however, never had that problem. Since my father gave me human like emotions, I never disliked anyone. In fact, it was quite the opposite, I liked everything. I especially like earth and humans. They are very interesting. I want to learn all about them.” Brielle tried to explain it the best she could. She was never good at explaining things. She was a healer, all she did was heal. Yes, she might have had a lot of knowledge about angelic matters and the earth and what not, but she wasn’t the one to tell people these things. She was never really good at it.
“I love milkshakes! Especially Banana milkshakes. That one is my favorite. I would drink them all day if I could. That and candy. I like candy too.” Gabrielle clapped her hands in delight, rocking side to side as she thought about all the sugary treats that humans like to indulge in. They had a good reason to, after all most of them were delicious. She liked fruits too. However, she hated meat. Trying to eat something from animal was hard for her. She thought animals were just like humans. Brielle certainly wasn’t going to go around and eat humans.
Brielle disregarded the fact that he had pushed himself back more against the door when she looked at the cross. She didn’t understand personal boundaries and what the social norm was for someone she just met. She just felt that he was too fascinating. Brielle wanted to ask him a bunch of questions, and a part of her wanted to fix the strand band of hair the fell just slightly askew from the rest. Yet, she knew that it was a personal thing, and decided to back off a bit. “Being religious is a good thing. You need something to believe in. Better idea to pray to us and not the demons. They are worse.”
“Lycanthropy isn’t something that can be cured like that because it’s in your genetic material now and not a virus. If it were a virus I could heal it. I can also heal things like heartache or sadness. But sadly, I can’t make someone human again.” Brielle admitted, looking into his eyes before finally fixing that strand of hair that had been bothering her earlier. “Well other angels might have their own opinions. I’m not like other angels. I’m Gabrielle, Angel of Healing. And I say that being what you are is something wonderful. It makes Alex, Alex. Just like being an Angel makes me Brielle. I wouldn’t change it for anything.”
