Balthazar was back. Not only was he back, but he was back in the vessel that he had grown quite fond of over the years. Balthazar didn't know who had brought him back or why. The most likely candidate was his Father. It wasn't out of the question that He would want to bring Balthazar back. Now that Lucifer was safely locked away in his cage again, Castiel was up there as one of Heaven's top enemies, if not the very top enemy, for word had already reached Balthazar's ears about some of the things Cas had done in the more recent past.
Perhaps, God had decided that Balthazar might hope on the straight and narrow road again that the majority of angels trod. They were all mindless soldiers, obeying Father's orders (or at least what they thought were father's orders) and that was that. But his Father would be sorely disappointed to hear that Balthazar didn't plan on hopping back onto that road again anytime soon. He enjoyed the life he had created for himself on Earth far too much to want to shove a stick back up his ass and become just another obedient angel again.
Let the Winchester brothers, Castiel, the other angels fight their little war amongst each other. This angel would gladly stay out of it this time around. Balthazar had been literally stabbed in the back by a friend the last time he had decided to get involved. He wasn't going to let his conscious or that heart he did have get the best of him this time. The angels and the Winchesters could plead, beg, and summon him all that they wanted to but Balthazar wasn't going to change his mind. The souls of the monsters that hunters killed ended up in Purgatory. When angels died, however, there was a whole lot of nothing. They were simply gone, unless someone decided to bring them back. Experiencing that once had been one time too many for Balthazar.
One of the cities he had enjoyed his second shot at life in had been Las Vegas. He had traveled all around the United States of America after that, never staying in any one place for too long to lessen the chances of ever encountering any of his brethren. He would come into a city, enjoy its many bars and clubs, and then get the hell out of dodge. It was the way he had always been living his life from the moment he had decided to fake his own death and escape from Heaven.
And now he found himself in Cleveland, Ohio, a city that only the locals seemed willing to love, while the rest of the country could have cared less about it (hopefully, that sentiment was shared among the angels too). There were plenty of bars and clubs and even a casino he could have gone too but, instead, Balthazar found himself walking along the waterfront of Lake Erie, watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon. Not that many people were out and about near the lake this late in the evening and this late in the Fall season but he didn't mind the solitude for the time being. Surrounding himself with humans twenty-four/seven wasn't going to change the fact that he was truly all alone in the world--a rogue angel, whose family only called on him whenever they needed his help.

[/img] Jessica was somewhat new to the whole library business and because of that, she often got stuck with the not so likable parts of the job. One of these assignments was going to the librarian conventions that were scattered around the country. She was required to go to as many of the conventions as she possibly could, take quality notes and make sure to deliver them back to the branch manager, so that particular library could stay up on all of the new technologies and regulations that the national library board assigned to all of the libraries in the United States. It really was not the most pleasant experience, having to listen to boring speeches about a new card catalog and whatnot. She would much rather be back in her home library, giving story times and seeing the smiles break out on the faces of the little children. However, she wasn’t about to risk losing her job in order to just stay home and tell stories. She knew that she had to start at the bottom and sometimes the bottom could be a little unpleasant. There were a few perks of being stuck having to do the travelling. The library helped her to pay for the whole trip: travel, lodging, food, everything. And she was able to take her little dog, Belle, along with her, whom she had quite an attachment to. The convention was over for the day, so Jessica thought she would take Belle out to get a little fresh air after both of them had been cooped up all day. The lake was the perfect place to get a little exercise. Jessica momentarily paused in their walk around the lake to re-tie her shoe when Belle took off. “ No! No, Belle, come back!” she said, racing after the cocker spaniel. For a small dog, she was surprisingly fast and Jessica didn't catch up with her until the dog was sniffing the shoes of a stranger, who was also enjoying the beauty of nature. " Oh, sir, I'm so sorry!" she said, pulling the dog away from the man's shoes.[/blockquote]

Balthazar was just starting to contemplate heading to one of those many bars that the city hosted. Thinking about his family often put him in the mood for a drink or two...or twenty. And even that many drinks was never enough to make him feel anything. Sometimes being an angel was no fun...Okay, all of the time being an angel was no fun.
But, before he could even think about heading back the way he had come, he saw a furry, little dog running in his general direction and close on its heels was a beautiful blond woman. Balthazar wasn't a big fan of human beings but that didn't mean he didn't enjoy their company. They may be nothing more than hairless apes but they sure knew how to have a good time and Balthazar could appreciate that. He'd rather spend the rest of eternity among them than among the angels who would consider sitting down and staring at a blank wall all day long the most fun they were willing to have.
As the woman got closer to him, Balthazar's supernatural senses started to tingle. Oh, this woman was nothing more than a human but there was something about her that was off, like she didn't belong in the world anymore. What were the odds that she may have been resurrected too? Why, though? Dead was dead for most humans, unless they were important enough for Daddy dearest to feel the need to bring back to life.
Balthazar knew better, though, than to lead off with a question along the lines of 'Why were you brought back from the dead?' She might think he was crazy. So, instead, Balthazar offered her a charming smile. "It's all right," he reassured her, "I happen to love animals." He bent over to give Belle a light pat on her head. He really didn't like dogs all that much but when it came to gorgeous women he would say just about anything to keep them around and to make them think that he was a decent bloke.

This was quite a rare occurrence for Belle to run away from Jessica. Usually, the little dog refused to leave the woman's side. Perhaps it was a bit of revenge for the dog for Jessica to be dragging her all over the place for her conventions and whatnot. But could she really be blamed? She just hated the thought at leaving her dear Belle in some kennel for a few days. She might be able to have someone dog sit, but she hated being an inconvenience to others.
"Belle, get back here! Bad dog, bad dog!" she said, as the dog sniffed at the man's shoes. Oh, she hoped the man didn’t have a hatred or even a fear of dogs. That was one thing that wasn’t exactly great about having a pet. Sometimes they got a little out of hand at the expense of strangers, particularly dogs, since they were always naturally curious.
She finally reached the man and lugged the dog away from him. “Bad dog, bad dog!” she repeated, making sure that Belle knew that she was in trouble. Belle was a bit of a troublemaker from time to time, but Jessica was always carefully to not actually strike the little dog. She just couldn’t handle the look that Belle would give her. Jessica was a bit of a softie.
“Thanks for being so nice about this. I don’t know what’s gotten into her; she never really runs away from me like that,” she said, shaking her head and putting some blonde locks behind her ear. She smiled as she watched the man bend over and gently pat her dog on the head. Jessica pulled Belle into her arms and held her tightly so that she wouldn’t run away again. “Oh? Do you have pets of your own?”

Balthazar was always going to dislike the hairless apes that God liked to call human beings but that didn't meant that he couldn't enjoy being around them. He was stuck on Earth so he might as well start living like the locals and, boy, did humans love their sinful activities. They went to church on Sundays after a full weekend of booze and sex. Granted, not all humans participated in those activities but even those nonparticipants liked to think about getting involved.
Dying had just made him all that much more eager to live. Castiel had opened up the doorway for them all by becoming a rogue angel (and had then gone on to go even beyond rogue when he had joined forces with the demon Crowley), and Balthazar had gladly followed in his brother's footsteps. He had once told Cas that he had proved that angels could do anything so he was trying everything. That statement was even more true today because what did he have left to lose?
He might consider all of the humans that he spent any amount of time with his pets but Balthazar knew that she probably wouldn't appreciate that sentiment, so he found himself saying, "Oh, no. No pets for me. I move around a lot. One day I'm in Las Vegas. The next I'm in Paris. The next I'm in--" He raised up his arms to gesture about him. "--Cleveland." If there was anything good that could be said about being an angel, then it was the ability to travel anywhere (and any when but that took a lot more energy) instantaneously and for free.
Balthazar could have easily probed into her mind to find out if she remembered dying and then being resurrected and to find out what she was doing here (although, the latter question was bound to have a less interesting answer than the former one), but that was one angelic power that he didn't use unless it was absolutely necessary. He would conduct this encounter the old-fashioned way, which usually worked very well for him. "I'm Balthazar," he introduced himself, offering her a hand to shake.

Jessica raised her eyebrows and clutched a wiggling Belle in her arms when she heard the man’s response. “Well, that’s pretty amazing! Is it work or pleasure that helps you do all that travelling? ” she asked, obviously impressed by the man’s travel record. She had always wanted to do some travelling, but for obvious reasons, she had never gotten around to it. It had always been on her agenda to do it after she graduated from college and…well, that plan had obviously been shattered by her death. Jessica wasn’t quite sure if she would ever get around to doing all of that travelling now. Her job kept her fairly busy and – well, she wasn’t exactly swimming in money.“I’ve always wanted to visit Paris. Is it as great as they say?” Paris had been on the very long list of places that she wanted to visit, along with places like London and Africa.
Once Belle had been calmed somewhat, Jessica lowered her to the ground and kept a tight grip on the leash, just in case the dog decided to investigate other people. “Balthazar,” she said, raising her eyebrows before delicately taking the man’s hand and giving it a firm shake. The name sounded familiar to her, but she couldn’t quite place where she’d heard it before. “That’s a pretty unique name. Were you named after someone in particular?” she asked, hoping she wasn’t stretching her bounds with the stranger by asking about his name. Names and just words in general were always something that had really fascinated Jessica.

He thought about her question for a moment before answering, "A little bit of both, I suppose." It was very pleasurable to visit the biggest cities on Earth (and sometimes he stopped by some of the smaller towns). It was also work, or rather the work he didn't want to do, keeping him on the run. He could spend his whole life settled down in a city like Las Vegas but his brothers kept him moving around.
Humans needed to learn how to enjoy their lives more. All she needed was money for a plane ticket and a hotel room, if she didn't want to get friendly with the locals, and she could go wherever she wanted to go. Or, if she became friends with a kind angel, then she could get to wherever she wanted to go for free. Balthazar liked to consider himself a nice bloke but he wasn't in the business of giving his angelic nature away to most humans. "It's not all that it's cracked up to be." Maybe for humans Paris was as exotic and beautiful as they could ever hope for but he was far from a human.
He needed to start learning to give out some alias to humans because so many people liked to ask him that question. "You'd have to ask my dad but good luck trying to reach him. He usually doesn't answer any calls these days." God didn't seem to care much about anyone anymore, even his favorite creation. It was the angels who ruled Heaven now, while their absent father did...Well, whatever the hell he was doing.

“Well, you’re lucky that you can mix business and pleasure like that. I’m in town for a library conference. Not the most fun way to spend the weekend,” she said with a laugh and a light shrug,”What do you do?” The conference was probably not quite as bad as Jessica was making it out to be, but she couldn’t help it. This was not the job that she had signed up for when she went into the interview. She very much preferred to be tending to the children, telling them stories and singing songs to them.
Jessica was a little disappointed to hear that Paris was not as great as everyone always said it was. “Well, that’s a little disappointing,” she said, looking down at the ground for a brief moment.
The man didn’t seem too overly conversational, but Jessica found herself not wanting to leave just yet. It had been awhile since she last had a really good conversation with an adult; she was just such a sociable person. “What is one place you would suggest to visit?” she asked, curiously.
Jessica furrowed her eyebrows when the man mentioned his father. He seemed a bit bitter, but why would he suddenly start talking about his father? It seemed a bit odd to her.
ooc: aaaah, I'm so sorry this is short and it took me so long. :C Any ideas how we could spice this up so they're not just having random conversation? xD

What did Balthazar do besides drink and have sex? Well, run around the world doing everything that he could to avoid other angels, but he knew that that wasn't the answer that Jessica was looking for. "I dabble. Do a little bit of this and a little bit of that." That probably wasn't any better of an answer than the truth would have been, but the day Balthazar found himself with a real job on Earth was the day he officially would become too human and might actually consider flying back up to Heaven.
Balthazar shrugged his shoulders at her question. "It all depends on what you like. A relaxing day on the beach or something more exhilarating?" He had literally almost been everywhere at least twice. Always on the move had become his lifestyle of choice ever since he had faked his own death, although by now he was almost positive that every angel still in existence knew that he was still alive and didn't care one way or the other about it; it was those few angels that were actively seeking him out that were the ones that he had to worry about.
He could only keep up the charade for so long. Sometimes curiosity got the best of him. He just had to know who she was because what was so important about a librarian that someone felt the need to resurrect her? She seemed confused about him mentioning his father so he took the opening to say, "God's too busy these days to care about much of anything. You see, I'm an angel recently resurrected and your a human recently resurrected, which makes me wonder just how many others are out there recently brought back from the dead and what makes us so special."
(OOC: I don't know. Maybe a demon who was a really close follower of Azazel's happens by and isn't happy to see her alive again so he attacks her? That's all I've got right now.)

Jessica silently nodded when she heard what Balthazar said. It was a very vague answer, so she assumed that it was something that he just didn’t want to talk about. After all, they were practically strangers and some people were very private about their lives. And who knew what sort of job he really had? She got lost in her imagination for a moment and thought about Balthazar possibly having some sort of incredibly secret career, like an international spy or perhaps even something illegal! Jessica blinked and shook her head briefly. No, no, no, she was getting carried away. He probably had some kind of perfectly respectable career.
“Hmm…,” she said, tilting her head to the side and tapping her chin. Exhilarating or relaxing? Jessica had really had enough exhilarating adventure to last her for awhile. Yes, something relaxing would probably be the best bet. “I guess I would prefer something more relaxing,” she said with a grin. After all, relaxing was what vacations were for, weren’t they?
The smile slowly slid off Jessica’s face as she took in what the man was saying. “Y-you’re an angel?” she asked, taking an involuntary step backwards. The last angel she had run into was one by the name of Castiel. He had revealed to her the honest truth about the fact that there were a variety of supernatural creatures in the world. And he had also revealed the truth about Sam Winchester, which she wasn’t sure if she believed or not. "Wait - I didn't know angels could die," she said, slightly confused.
ooc: I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry this took me so long! Jess muse was sleepy. >.<

"If your idea of relaxing is laying on a beach all day long, then go to Spain," he advised her, "If it's more akin to having a glass of wine and an expensive dinner, then Italy would be your spot." Oh, Balthazar could have easily given her terrible advice. He probably would have if she were any other human. But she had recently been resurrected from the dead like him (he still didn't know why) so he could give her a break. Who knew if this was a permanent resurrection or if, whatever or whoever had brought them back, would kill them again once it had no use for them anymore.
She seemed more than surprised when he told her he was an angel. The very fact that she stepped backwards from him alerted him to an interesting fact. "You've met one of my siblings before, I see." It wasn't a question. He knew he could safely surmise that it was true. The natural reaction for most humans upon meeting an angel would be more like awe, shock, and wonder, not an involuntary step backwards, unless that human knew just how awful most angels could be.
"The only thing that can kill an angel is another angel," he told her. That wasn't, strictly speaking, true; anyone with an angel blade could kill an angel but the only place to obtain one of those blades was from another angel. In Balthazar's case, however, it was only too true. Before she could think that he had had to have done something terrible and evil to have been killed by one of his siblings, he quickly added, "My brother killed me because I was helping two hairless apes--no offense--try to stop him from doing something completely and utterly foolish. He didn't appreciate my betrayal, and I got a knife in the back for it."

[/img] Jessica raised her eyebrows and tilting her head to the side. “ Spain?” she said, grinning as she thought about it. She’d never really thought about Spain being a place that she might want to visit. Jessica had always been a bit curious about Italy, though. The language was so beautiful, from what she heard the food was absolutely delicious, and just think of how much history surrounded that country! She wasn’t exactly a historical expert, but the whole subject definitely intrigued her. “ Well, thanks for the advice,” she said with a smile and a nod. She doubted that she would be able to travel anytime soon, but it wasn’t too early to at least starting saving up. She really didn’t know why she was taken so much by surprise. After all, she’d met an angel before and he looked completely human. For all she knew, there could be angels all over the place in her day to day life and she would never know it. “ Yeah…a couple of days ago,” she said, after shaking herself out of her shock,” He said his name was Castiel, I think.” She definitely hadn’t forgotten her little run-in with the other angel. The things he said had shocked her almost to the point of a breakdown, particularly when he told her that Sam had died…several times. Jessica raised her eyebrows when she heard the angel’s story. She really didn’t know what to say to that. All of this supernatural stuff just seemed so over her head. " And...and you have no idea what brought you back? Or why?"[/blockquote]

She spoke the one name in the whole universe that Balthazar could have done without hearing. But, of course, she couldn't have known that. He clenched his jaw down to keep from spitting out any one of the many choice names he wanted to call his old friend. Instead, he settled with a simple, "And he's the angel that killed me." There was no hiding the anger, mixed with some sadness, as he said those words.
He had come here to forget about angels, to forget about Castiel, but that plan had just flown completely out the window. "He didn't happen to mention me to you, did he?" Maybe there was some way to glean from her what Castiel's mental state was these days. Balthazar knew that he would inevitable run into him someday. Answering his own question, he said, "No. I don't suppose he did. He probably went on and on about Sam and Dean. They're never far from his mind." He wondered where they stood with Cas today.
Balthazar quickly shook that thought from his head. He wasn't supposed to be wondering things like that. He wasn't supposed to care about what was going on in the supernatural realm. "I don't know what brought me back. I don't know why I was brought back, and I don't care. And, if you want some really wise advice from me, then listen to this: you shouldn't care either. Getting mixed up in affairs that our beyond you is a bad idea." He could speak from experience.
