[Klaus Mikaelson]
[Mystic Falls High School ; Caroline Forbes]
The black SUV pulled up in front of Mystic Falls High School. There had been many times that he had pulled into the same spot, waiting for Rebekah to get done with her silly little cheerleading practice. Now he was not here for his sister. His sister could continue to run off with her little human boy toy. It was simply to piss off her older brother and it certainly was working. He returned home to smell his sister reeking of the male. No, today he had his sights on another blonde. A blonde who he had no doubt was angry with him. Always seemed angry with him. Always pushing him back but leaving him only wanting her more.
Caroline was the only woman he had ever met that refused him so. Then again, she was the only woman that he allowed to refuse him. Over the course of thousands of years, if the male wanted something or someone…he took it. Compelling was simple and in truth, he thought nothing of forcing someone to his will. Not her…he just couldn’t force her to do anything that she did not want willingly. For her it was different. He had only compelled her once, when they first met and he was still riding around in the history teacher Alaric Saltzman. She had spilled her guts to him and he happily listened to any information that she willing gave him about the doppleganger and her silly friends. That was then, before he knew her. Before he knew how very special she was. In the beginning she was only a tool. A means to reach his goals. That spark in her, that fire was so infectious. How could he have not been utterly captivated. So he began to watch her a bit more closely than he had in the past. There was a warmth to her, a light that wasn’t in anyone that he had ever met. The only person who remotely kindled such a response from him had been Tatia, centuries ago. Was he in love with her? Was he even capable of love anymore? Klaus knew he could love. Unlike other vampires, he had never turned his emotions off. They had always fueled him but love had always been a weakness to him. Elijah had love and had been hurt. How many times had Rebekah stupidly fallen and was crushed. He’d been protecting his already damaged heart from being broken again. No, he didn’t love her…but he could. Only if she was willing to take a chance on him.
He was smitten. Telling her that he fancied her was one thing but he had failed in really showing her that she was more than a mere toy or distraction. Caroline had became something of an obsession. She drove him crazy. One moment he wanted to kiss her, the other he wanted to be rid of her. It was a beautiful insanity with her. But he had left for far too long and potentially ruined any chance that she had been willing to give him. Thankfully Tyler had been out of the picture recently. Perhaps he should care where his first hybrid had gotten off to? No, Tyler was one of his hybrids that were even more expendable. There was no bond between the arrant boy and his creator. Only the desire for the same woman. Caroline was far better off without the mutt in the original’s humble opinion. The girl was constantly being hurt by a boy that had no clue on how to treat a woman like her. Perhaps she made him soft? He would kill anyone who said it of course but he knew she brought out his humanity and he only showed a softer side to her.
That was why he was at the high school. He knew she would be at lunch. A part of him hoped that she would skip school for the day and leave with him. Stepping into the school, he could feel different eyes on him. A sly smirk crossed his features as he heard soft whispering of a group of girls as he passed. Silly little girls. There had been countless women in his life. Living over one thousand years would merit many but there was only one he wanted. The sly smirk softened to a genuine smile as he saw the golden flax colored hair. Her back was to him as he approached. Her scent invaded his senses. The soft delicate perfume that was so very Caroline wafted to his nose, making his head light. The heady scent of her was intoxicating and the male found it difficult to remain still. Of course she would be angry with him. But then again, that meant something was there. It meant that he was getting to her; getting under her skin. The original hybrid knew she could hear him, smell his scent behind her. His arms placed casually behind his back as he waited for her to turn around. "Caroline."
