Savannah pulled the light sweater tighter around her as she crossed the town square, heading for the woods at the edge of town. Her mismatched eyes dart around her, her nostrils flair slightly and her ears twitch slightly as all her senses take in her surroundings, looking for danger. Gentle and quiet by nature, Savannah was nervous do to past experience. There was no one around though, not that she could tell. The only smells were that of the forest, the only sound was the wind blowing and snow crunching under foot.
As she made her way further and further into the woods, Savannah relaxed more and more. This was what she enjoyed. At one point she loved the hustle and bustle that came from being among people, she enjoyed helping them and just being around her own kind. After her ex-boyfriends attack on her though...Things had changed. Then when she was attacked by the skin walker last year? Things changed even more. Now, although it was lonely, she stayed away from others in an attempt to keep them safe from her, especially when she was in her alternate form.
She had control of the impulses, but sometimes it was hard. The urge to rip out another human’s heart was always there, but it wasn’t something she had ever acted on, and not something she ever wanted too. Savannah wasn’t violent in any way, shape or form and she didn’t like violence in any way, shape or form. She especially didn’t want to kill anyone. That just wasn’t her.
Savannah paused at the edge of a wide field and again looked around, sniffed and listened for the sounds of anyone around her. When she was satisfied that she was alone, she removed her scarf, mittens and jacket. Folding them up neatly and putting them in a bag she set them under a tree were they should stay dry. She didn’t even shiver as the cold wind blew across the bare skin of her arms, nor as she pulled off her boots and placed them with her clothing.
She wasn’t sure if it had something to do with the Husky she turned into, or the fact that she grew up above the arctic circle, but she did know that the cold never bothered her. At least not since she moved south. More than likely it was a little from column A and a little from column B. A particularly cold wind blew past her, causing her skin to prickle. OK, so not completely immune to the cold, but still a lot more tolerant then some of the people around her. She often wondered how the ones who complained about the winter here would deal with minus fifty degrees and upwards of forty to forty five centimeters of snow at a time.
Closing her eyes, Savannah concentrated for a moment, and felt her body start to change pretty much on its own. It wasn’t a painful transformation, but it did feel weird. Her joints and internal organs softened and changed as it progressed. Half way through, she let herself fall forward, thankful for the thick, red and white fur that was already covering her body. It took all of two minutes for the transformation to complete itself. Man, she was getting quicker at this.
She stretched herself out as her eyes adjusted to the dogs restricted color palette. Her alternate form was a striking dark red and white husky, her eyes the same mismatched colors as they were when she was human. She enjoyed this form, the dogs instincts were so much calmer then her own busy, paranoid brain. It was easy to let go and just enjoy life like this.
She bounded forward, and let out a loud, single bark as she buried her face in the snow before jumping back up and trotting towards the woods, her furry ears up and alert, but the fluffy tail wagging happily. Stepping into the tree line she paused and sniffed the air, tensing up slightly. There was someone else around. The smell wasn’t one she knew right off the bat, but she had smelt it somewhere...Where was the question. She stood just in the tree line, waiting wondering if her curiosity would be relieved here, or if she’d have to go looking for it.
