Cade pulled the old mustang to the side of the road and cut the engine just short of the bridge. He sat there for a moment, looking out the windshield and watching for any movement. The only thing that moved though were the bare tree branches in a light winter breeze. Snow was tossed into the air and drifted across the road, but that was it. There wasn’t another living soul here, yet. Just him, and well, Loki. The Australian shepherd was curled up in the front, passenger seat snoozing peacefully.
Stealing a look at his watch, Cade cursed under his breath. It was later then he would have liked to do this meet up, almost eleven o’clock at night. Especially considering the way things had been lately. Life had just been hectic, and he was ready for this whole wild goose chase, trying to find his biological parents, BS to be over. Why couldn’t he be like a lot of adopted kids? Just happy with the fact that he was loved by his adopted parents and move on?
Simple answer, because that would be too easy.
Cade opened his door, shivering slightly as the cold night air rushed into the car. It was a chilly forty six degrees out, which although it neared a heat wave for the people who were born and raised her, was almost downright cold compared to the temperatures he was use to. This time of year in Las Vegas, the temperatures would hover between fifty and fifty five degrees. Not a huge difference, but it was big enough to make the hunter uncomfortable. He paused before getting out of the car, double checking the firearms and knives he had hidden on him.
Was he paranoid? Yeah, a little bit especially since this was a business meeting only, or at least he was pretty sure it was. Truth be known, he wasn’t exactly sure who he was meeting. It could be a harmless civilian, or it could be another hunter, or something worse. Long story short, the paranoid would survive longer, and well it was better to be safe than sorry.
“You coming?” he asks Loki as he gets out of the car and holds the door open. The dog just yawns and lays his head on the counsel between the seats. The look on his face clearly saying, yeah right, you have fun. Rolling his eyes Cade closes the door before walking to the bridge.
He wasn’t a local, and he didn’t know the history of the bridge or anything. All he knew was the name, Wickery Bridge, or something like that. Cade walked about half way out across and waited. His ears strained to hear everything around him, and his eyes moved around trying to break the darkness. There was only so far his senses could go, but he hoped it would be enough as he waited for whoever it was he was meeting here..
