Damon sat at the bar ordering shot after shot, only a few hours ago he had been dumped by Elena… he lost her and he lost Katherine. Maybe he should just stay away from the Petrova bloodline, it didn’t seem to bring him much luck. When he was with Elena everything made sense in his world…everything felt right and he felt like he could be himself…his old self. Of course none of it had lasted once again his heart was broken in a million pieces. Damon knew he should have known better, after all love didn’t seem like it was something that mixed well with the vampire, he gripped the shot glass between his cold dead fingers. He didn’t deserve Elena, or at least it couldn’t last she was a human he was a vampire… that kind of couple was always doomed from the start.
Damon threw back his head touching the shot glass to his lips enjoying the burn as the liquid slid down his throat. With a loud clink the shot glass returned to the bar and the vampire twisted around on the bar stool. There weren’t that many people here yet; after all it was only five in the afternoon. Everyone was just getting off work or finishing up homework at least the nerd students would be. If Damon was playing student like his brother he would just compel the teachers into thinking he did the homework. The place would fill up though, the dinner rush, than kids coming to hang out… such a small town they didn’t really have any other places to go.
His eyes scanned the few people that were there, no one he cared to talk to. It was times like this Damon missed his friend Alaric, the two hadn’t started off with a good relationship after all Alaric was a vampire hunter...not to mention Damon turned his wife into a vampire. Over time the two had to team up so much they became friend, close friends. The day Damon had lost Alaric had been a tough one losing another person he cared about… A small chuckle escaped his lips, he should be used to that by now. Without looking at the bartender Damon demanded another shot and quickly downed the alcohol. Drinking was the only thing he had left right now, his brother wasn’t speaking to him, he didn’t have Elena, and he didn’t have Alaric.

It had been 5 months since Alaric had seen Elena, Damon, Stefan or any of the other teenagers he used to protect and consider family. Alaric had spent the last 5 months of what felt like exile in order to help him gain his sanity back and to control his dark alter ego with the help of Bonnie and Abby Bennett. Ric had finally been given the “okay” to go back out into the city and live his life as sane as he possibly could. Though there was the possibly that the powerful dark vampire hunter could arise, but it would only be short-lived and Bonnie would be able to conceal it again, no matter how far away they were from one another. Since being out, he had gone straight to the Mystic Grill in hopes that he would see a few familiar faces, but there was no luck. A part of him started to think that his old friends were avoiding him. He feared that they would not be able to forgive him for what the other side of him had done to his friends.
Just last week, he had gone to the Mystic Grill with his sights set on drinking and finding his friends, only to find a resurrected Lexi Branson. The two had hit it off and he had fed from a vampire for the first time and it released another side of him, the wild and animalistic ego of himself that hid within the confines of the new vampire personality. Little did he know that feeding from a vampire would arise feelings of love from whoever he fed from. That vampire being Lexi Branson. She bit him as well though, but Lexi knew what would happen to his mentality, so it almost felt like a trick because she was attracted to him and lured him in with the alternative to drinking from humans and feed from her instead. Even though she was a new friend, he felt betrayed. Alaric felt like he sort of knew he though since Elena and everyone else had mentioned her in the past.
A few days after that incident, a girl of sixteen years old waltzed to his door and claimed to be his daughter, Abigail Saltzman. She was Isobel’s daughter, but Alaric never could recall ever when Isobel was even the least bit pregnant, in other words, she hid being pregnant and lied about ever being able to get pregnant. Sour feelings for Isobel continued to rise in his mind, even more than before. But he couldn’t blame Damon for turning her, since he was only fulfilling a beautiful woman’s wishes and he didn’t know the pain it was cause her husband that she never even bothered to mention. Alaric, their marriage and her secret baby was the life she never wanted and tried to forget as she sought out becoming a vampire. It was all so ironic of how he was a vampire hunter, became a vampire, and is still a hunter. All of it could have been averted if Isobel was in her right mind or if Damon would have used his brain and declined her request.
Just a few days ago, Abigail mentioned that she had run into Damon Salvatore and several things had taken place which appalled Alaric. One, Elena dumped Damon too out of the fear of hurting Stefan. Her reasoning was that dating one or the other would just hurt them both, so she wanted to avoid the pain for both of them by not choosing either of them and trying to move on. Alaric had yet to talk to Elena, but he would give her props on that. No, he didn’t like the fact that now his best friend was in utter pain and would revert to his asshole self now that Elena around to flutter his heart and change his personality from jerk to sincere gentleman, or at least similar to it. But he had also heard that Damon gave alcohol to his underage daughter AND made her cry among a few other things. Typical Damon to lash out and be a dick when he was hurting. Since Damon was now a since and heartbroken vampire, he knew that he could now find Damon at the Grill, drinking his pain away and not at Elena’s side for once.
Walking into the Grill, he eyed the bar and saw black hair within a black leather jacket and Alaric’s suspicions were right, Damon Salvatore was already taking shots. Just by walking in, he saw two shots taken and he kept to himself and there was no one near him and he sat in silence. As he approached the bar himself, the deep croaking of his boots could be heard and as he met up to Damon, he lifted up his hand and slapped him across the back of his head. ”What the hell were you thinking? Talking crap on Abigail’s mother?! I mean I hate her too, but that’s beside the point!” His tone was only slightly raised and the hit was meant to be more light and even somewhat playful. It would make Damon be pissed off at first, but once he would recognize his voice, he would instantly cheer up. Alaric, at the first sight of Damon at the bar had already made him happier. ”You gave her alcohol and bit her, all of that in one night?!” Alaric then turned Damon around on the barstool, calmed his face down and smiled before pulling him into a strong hug. Alaric was just making a dramatic entrance to seeing his best friend once again.

Damon was so wrapped up in his thoughts he didn’t even hear the newcomer walking behind him until it was too late a playful hand smacked the back of his head, instinctly Damon’s hand went to the spot smack “What the hell?” who is town would hit him? Who did he know well enough, it wasn’t a hard smack more of a playful one. The voice hit him like a truckload of bricks, Alaric? No he was dead how could it be. The voice was saying something about his daughter and giving her a drink and well biting her. ” I didn’t bite her” he squished up his nose he didn’t bite her he scratched her “I scratched her with a little bit of my tooth… two drops of blood three at most” he held up his thumb and pointer finger only centimeters apart from each other when he said little. “As for the alcohol that wasn’t her first time if you know what I mean” she hadn’t even made a face when taking the shot… she had experience in drinking and age meant almost nothing to Damon. ” Oh and I’m not going to sugar coat her mother for her…” Damon wasn’t one to sugar coat anything, she wanted to know about her mother and he told her.
He felt strong arms drag him off the stool and pull him into a hug, Even though Damon hated hugs Abigail had hugged him but he couldn’t help but smile and grip the vampire hunter in front of him actually hugging him back. “Are you going to tell me where you've been?” Damon then felt himself get a little angry why had Alaric hid this from him why didn’t him where he had gone Damon had felt so alone… Alaric had somehow become his most unlikely friend. Damon had actually treasured their friendship but would never admit it to anyone.
“Wait… what about your evil twin?” Damon asked referring to Alaric dark ego… he had gone around killing people… did he fix that? Was he still a great guy by day and a killer by night? Damon pulled out of the hug and looked at the man in front of him, just being with a friend Damon could feel himself feeling better… he wasn’t alone anymore… sure he was still upset about Elena but at least he would have someone.

After smacking the back of the young and reckless vampire’s head, his hand reached to the spot before asking what the hell? Alaric would have expected Damon to turn around without thinking and punch him in the face, but it was the alcohol that was probably mellowing him out, not to mention his break up with Elena. Though the tone of his voice changed from hostile to relatively calm and the typical Damon tone, that must had been when he recognized Ric’s voice. Alaric brought up the fact of how Damon had simply nicked his daughter on the neck with his sharp fangs and Ric called it a bit while Damon called it a small scratch. Damon hadn’t changed a bit. Then as for the alcohol, it wasn’t her first time with drinking and then as for her mother, he wasn’t going to sugar coat it. Ric lowered his head at the thought of Isobel and how much she had really lied and betrayed him. Was their relationship nothing but lies and her not being satisfied with her life? Ric was so lost in love with her, and the whole time, it was just a lie. Huffing lightly, he shoved off the thoughts and pulled Damon into a deep hug.
Alaric hadn’t seen his good friend in quite a long time and to be honest, he missed his company and how they would used to hang out all of the time at the Grill. But now it looked like such times were about to happen right there that day. Ric wasn’t usually one for hugs and neither was Damon, but he didn’t care at this point. Damon even hugged him back, a silent expression that he also missed Ric. Their eyes met and Ric couldn’t help but smile and when Damon asked where he had been, Alaric laughed lightly. ”You sound like my mother.” Ric paused before pulling out of the hug and seating himself on the stool next to Damon and asking the bartender to get him a few shots, looking into the eyes of the young man, Ric began to compel him as his pupils dilated. ”You’re going to get me as many free shots as my little heart desires and tell no one about it.” His pupils went back to their original size and he smiled wickedly before looking back at Damon and answering his question. Compelling a human was a sure sign that he was different now, but he was still the same Alaric, just an all-powerful and immortal original vampire.
”I was off learning that..” He smirked before continuing. ”I had to be controlled, my mind was completely taken over. Bonnie and Abby helped to use spells to control my mind and keep me sane as well as teaching me how to be a vampire..” His shots arrived at his fingertips and he quickly took his shot between his fingers and threw back his head before the cool liquid ran down his throat and felt like a burn that was so satisfying..”I was locked in the tombs, against my will but for my own good. So no, I wasn’t avoiding you for dating my stepdaughter and now trying to hit on my other daughter...” Alaric noted to him playfully and looked at Damon, seeing that his face was deeply saddened within. Then when asked about his dark “evil twin”, Ric lightly laughed. ”Well, the personalities blended. I am more outgoing, daring, flirtatious, but in the end, I am the same Ric. But when it comes to my vampire side, I am on the fence on determining whether I like feeding from humans or not. I am overall sane...Though I can have minor breakouts where my dark ego takes over completely, but Bonnie will feel it and quickly do a spell..” He looked back to the shot of alcohol in his hands.
”So for the most part, you’re safe...but there is that chance.” Ric said before downing his second shot. ”Speaking of feeding, I met Lexi Branson.” His blue eyes pierced into Damon’s and then kept speaking. ”She is back from the dead, it’s heard that a lot of dead are rising from the dead..something bigger than we’ve ever dealt with is coming to Mystic Falls....But anyway, she wants to stake you the first chance she gets, you better watch out.” He decided to keep the incident of the two feeding from one another silent for now, knowing Damon would be filled with disgust, just as much as Lexi was disgusted at the mere thought of Damon.

“I’m not hitting on her” Damon lied, he didn’t bring up the fact that he had kissed the girl… he was pretty sure that Ric would stake him right then and there. He didn’t know why he put up with the annoying girl but for some reason he kept going back to her… kept hanging out from her. He wasn’t even talking about how good her blood was. She had allowed him to drink from her and he enjoyed every bit of it… maybe he had almost drank too much… the almost drinking too much was also something that he would not reveal to Ric… he wasn’t planning on revealing anything that had to do with his daughter to him… it wasn’t a subject he really wanted to focus on especially because he didn’t know if he would survive it. ”Well good you aren’t all jackal and Hyde any more… it wasn’t your best look” His eyes scanned Ric, he seemed different… not like the Ric that he had last seen. He wasn’t sure if it was a good change or a bad change in the Vampire Hunter who was now a vampire.
When he mentioned Lexi raised his eyebrow, Damon was pretty sure he had killed that girl. The girl always getting on his nerves and messing with his brother, telling Damon he was a bad influence on Stefan and no doubt would tell Ric the same thing. “I’m pretty sure I killed her” he stated, he had killed her to prove to the council he was on their side. “Unless you are seeing ghost as well now” He took another shot “Than I think you might be losing it”. When Ric went on to say that she was back from the dead and a lot of dead were raising Damon narrowed his eyes, his attention was officially caught. Damon couldn’t help but smirk when he mentioned that Lexi wanted to stake him “Let her try” he didn’t fear her one bit… he killed her once he could do it again especially with how strong her felt, he had kind of gone on a feeding rampage he didn’t kill anyone but he was drinking far more than he usually did. Why should he watch his behavior, he only did it so Elena could approve of him.

Alaric rolled his eyes lightly and scoffed playfully, easily detecting the lies in voice as he slyly said his words. ”What’s with you and wanting the Petrova’s? I just....” Alaric paused, he wasn’t exactly sure why he wasn’t comfortable with the potential idea of Damon and Abigail being together. Well for one reason, Abigail was only sixteen years old. She had her whole life before her before she got entangled in all of the mess that Elena Gilbert had gotten into once meeting Katherine and the Salvatores. Ric then admitted aloud, ”Maybe it wasn’t the best idea of Abigail moving here...She’ll soon be in danger.” The man sighed, not wanting to see another one of his blood having to suffer. Though now Ric was an original vampire, he would be able to protect those he loved for once instead of being the fragile, alcoholic and mentally unstable guardian. In his life, he seemed to fail at protecting those he loved, but it looked like they never wanted him in the first place..Isobel was a good example of a person not wanting him. Everything that they had was lies....no, he needed to get over that and live his life now..the second chance he was given to make his life right for him and others.
”Just be careful with Abigail. She’s young and needs to live her life while she still can.” Looking down to his shot glass, he absentmindedly stared at it, perhaps that was the reason he didn’t want Abby getting so involved with Damon the moment that she stepped in Mystic Falls. Abigail was a Petrova, meaning someone, including Klaus would be after her for that very reason. Then he looked up and nudged Damon as he said his words. ”But I’ll kick your ass because I can now if you step out of place.” Ric probably would never go as far as killing Damon, but he would die in order to protect him. Ric was always the kind of man that would sacrifice himself for those he cared about. Damon would receive a heavy beating from the new original if he did try anything sneaky or out of line, Damon would surely walk out of the battle perfectly fine. The Salvatore was probably already keeping secrets from him about Abby, but he would find out eventually and even see if for himself if he really wanted to, but did he even want to see anything or did he just want to ignore everything?
Alaric smirked when Damon told him that it was good he wasn’t insane anymore because it wasn’t his best look. The man lightly laughed at him. ”And you’re look is any better?” He teased him before continuing. ”I am a different person though a bit...the personalities had to blend together to piece my mind together again...so there may be certain things I will do now that I wouldn’t before.” Or so Bonnie told him. Ric was going to be far more outgoing than he was before, and even more promiscuous but in that dangerous way, almost like how Damon was. At the mention of Lexi, Damon became alert and interested in the conversation a bit more. ”You killed her, but she’s back and not a ghost either... If she was, she would be gone by now. I heard there was a resurrection spell that affected the whole world..Bonnie said it was heavy black magic done by a powerful witch.” He shrugged, not wanting to deal with it, but knowing that it would soon become their business.
When he was told that he might be losing it, he lifted his brows for a moment. ”Well yes, but no. She’s real. And if you try to kill her again, I will personally see to it that you don’t.” Alaric looked over at him and smirked. It was nice having so much physical power and the ability to make threats that could actually go through. ”Speaking of Lexi...we had a blood sharing session you could say.. and I think it was a trick for her to get me to love her..So I’m pissed off at her. I like her, but I’m not sure if it was just her blood that’s making me feel this way, or if I actually like her.” Ric had his own reasons for drinking, but he was also there for Damon too that evening. Throwing back, he took another shot. ”What are two studs like us sitting at a bar moping around for?! We should get out there! Do something! That was the new Alaric speaking, the one that craved for amusement and action. At this point, he wouldn’t care if he went to a club and picked up some female that found him attractive.
