It was a semi-peaceful evening in Atlanta that was until a loud crackling sound and a flash of lightning flashed across the sky. Rain. Oh, how Avril absolutely hated the rain. Who wanted to get soaked? Avril sighed as she rolled her eyes as she put her hood over her head and made her way down the street. That was until somebody spoke.
“Just where do you think you’re going, pretty lady?”
“None of your business so screw off,” she replied as she began to walk past the guy only to have the guy grab her by the arm and she narrowed her eyes at the guy. She knew this was going to end up with someone getting their ass kicked. “You are drunk and need to leave,” she added as she crinkled her nose at the man’s odor.
“Someone ought to teach you some manners,” the guy said as he gripped her arm harder and pulled out a knife. Avril saw the man pull out a knife.“Have it your way then but don’t say I didn’t warn you,” she said as she sighed and she kicked the knife out of the man’s hand and then she flipped him onto his back and pointed her katana at him. The guy scrambled to his feet and he scurried down the street and she put her katana inside her jacket.
A few drops of rain hit Avril’s coat and she knew that she needed to find some shelter quickly before the storm got worse. She stumbled into a nearby tavern just before it started to pour down raining. She flicked her hood off of her head and she marched up to the front of the bar and ordered herself a shot of bourbon. The bartender gave her drink to her and she took it and downed it. She looked around the bar to see if there was anyone she knew lurking about. Not that she knew many people; she was mostly a lone wolf to other people.
Avril took off her coat and slung it up on the bar and she ordered herself another glass of bourbon. She just came to the tavern to have a good time and possibly meet someone. As soon as the bartender brought her drink to her she saw a handsome guy walk into the tavern along with his dog. She sighed softly as she sipped on her drink and as soon as the guy sat down beside her and ordered himself a drink, a sly smile spread across her lips. “Well look what the wind blew in,” she mused as she smirked. It was rare for Avril to even so much as even start a conversation with someone she hardly knew. It must have been the liquor doing the talking not that she had had very much to drink.

Cade hadn’t been planning on bringing Loki with him, but well the dog had given him that look, and Cade couldn’t say no. The two year old Australian Shepherd was all Cade had as far as friends and family went in this area, and he kind of had a soft spot for him. Loki had been his right hand man since Cade had found him wondering the streets of Atlanta about a year ago. Besides, he was going to the same tavern he always went to, he knew the owner (who was a long time acquaintance of Cade’s) and he didn’t care. Plus, dogs could be used to pick up girls, odd how a lot of them were attracted to the Merle Aussie.
It was miserable out, and Cade was happy that he had an attached garage, and had the sense to put the mustang in tonight. It would keep the two of them from getting drenched. Which meant it was going to keep the wet dog smell out of the car, which was a bonus. Cade’s old mustang was his baby, and next to Loki the most important thing to the guy.
The drive wasn’t a long one, the bar was only around the corner. Normally, Cade would have walked but, hey you’d have to be insane to walk in the torrential down pour that was going on. He just parked out front and through the door, Loki trotting along at his side. The dog didn’t even flinch at the music that was playing, or the loud laughter or even the stinging scent of alcohol. He was a trooper, and Cade was glad to have him.
As he approached the bar, he got a cheery hi from the bar keep, Jack, while Loki simply cut off from him trotted around the bar, his stumpy tail wagging. Jack always kept treats behind the bar for him, and Loki knew it. Cade just shook his head, and walked over to his usual seat, and got a beer pretty much thrown at him by Jack. Grabbing it, Cade cracked it open and took a swig before looking over at the girl curiously, a smile crossing his features as he recognizes her, “Hey Avril, how’ve you been girl? ” he asks her just as Loki comes back, milk bone in mouth and lays down at Cade’s feet to munch on the treat.

Avril watched as Loki went around to the bar to get a milk bone and came back to Cade to eat his treat. When he asked her how she had been, she took a sip of her drink. "I've been doing good, I suppose," she said as she tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear. "How you been?" she asked as she grabbed another dog treat for Loki. "Here you go, boy," she added as she let the dog eat the treat from her hand. "Better watch out for the lass or she'll gut you in half," said a scruffy looking guy who has a mollit haircut and reeked of boozes.
Avril raised an eyebrow up as soon as the guy said that. "Looks like the bar has opened up to the riff-raffs," she replied sarcastically as she grabbed the guy's wrist as he tried to grab her katana the was on her hip and she grabbed the guy by the wrist and flipped him over and pointed said katana at the guy's nose. 'Idiot must want me to cut his balls off,' she thought. "Unless you want to keep your manhood in one piece I highly suggest you crawl back in the hole you came out of," she said as she narrowed her eyes at the drunk idiot.
The bartender threw his towel onto the bar and had a couple of guys throw the drunk out.
"Sorry about the mess, Jack," Avril replied as Jack shook his head. "As long as you don't destory my bar I don't bitch," he replied. "Next round is on the house for you and your friend there," he added.
"Thanks," she replied as she put her katana back up in its holster as she grabbed a bottle of whiskey and unscrewed it. She glanced at Cade, almost forgetting that he was sitting there. "So...Cade what brings you to this part of town?" she asked as she sipped on her drink. "Other than the boozes that is."

Cade smiles and shrugs, “Can’t complain, and even if I did no one would listen,” he says with a chuckle. Loki wags his stump at Avril, taking the treat in a gentle mouth and eating it quickly. Cade laughs as the dog sits back up, looking at her with a doggy grin, looking for another treat. “No more Loki, you’ll end up getting fat at this rate,” he says reaching down and scratching the dogs ear fondly.
He looks up as the other guy looks up, “I’m not too worried about it man,” he says shrugging him off. He was, after all just a drunk moron who was shooting off his mouth and being annoying. Sadly, even in good taverns like this one, you always had one or two. It was to be expected. What Cade didn’t expect was Avril’s reaction, he jumped back as she landed the guy on the bar, laughing at the look on his face. Freaked out by the sudden show of violence so close to him, Loki joins Jack, once more behind the bar.
Cade is still laughing as the bouncers remove the man, and Jack hands him another beer ,”Thanks man,” he tells him as he puts it beside his other. Loki, deciding it’s safer on the other side, lays by Jack’s feet and lays his head in his paws. Cade just shakes his head, “You ever consider anger management?” He asks her with a grin.
He ponders her question for a moment. He sure as hell wasn’t going to tell her that he was actually taking a break from tracking a couple vampires in the area. Which was the truth, and something he was big on. Lying wasn’t something he really liked doing, but as a hunter it was kind of a part of the job description. Still though, it didn’t sit well with him.
Finishing off his first beer, he cracks open the second and smiles, “Well, the booze and the company are the main reasons, it’s been a bit lonely lately and I was hoping to change that, ” he says with a smirk, giving her a small wink. “Just kidding, do NOT try gutting me on the bar,” he adds with a smirk, earning a laugh from Jack as he moves down the bar to serve some other customers.

Avril rolled her eyes when Cade asked her if she had ever considered anger management. "Never thought I needed it," she quipped as she sipped on her whiskey. "That dumbass had it coming for trying to take my katana. Kicking his ass a second time seemed to have earn me in the bartender's graces so I ain't turning down free boozes." She chuckled as she smiled innocently.
"He got a point there, Av," Luke said as he got himself a drink from the bar and sat across from Avril and she flicked her middle finger up at her mentor in a playfully manner and grabbed a dart from off the table and threw it at the dart board, making it land on 40 points.
"Well maybe I do have a bit of anger problem but thats only because I deal with a lot of crap," she added as she rolled her eyes as she finished drinking her whiskey.
Avril almost choked on her whiskey when she heard Cade's comment about boozes and lonlieness needing company. She coughed as she raised an eyebrow up at him and smirked. "Oh really?" she asked as she put her hand on his face. "Maybe if you play your cards right you may get lucky," she added with a smirk as she leaned down to pet Loki.
Just then a handsome guy with blonde hair came up to Avril and put his hand on shoulder. "Hey babe what are you doing when you leave from here?" he asked.
"Is that suppose to be some kind of pick-up line?" she retorted as she looked up at the handsome blonde as she petted Loki who was growling and she stood up.
"Why don't you come back with me and I'll show you a real good time," the guy said as he looked her in the eye to compell her.
Avril merely blinked as she shook her head. "If I had to choose between you and Loki I would pick him," she replied as she snorted.
The guy grabbed her and his face shifted into it's vampire form and tried to sink his teeth into her neck.

Laughs at her denial and shakes his head, taking a swig of beer as he does. He hadn’t known Avril very long, and really didn’t know her well but one thing was for sure, he wouldn’t mess with her. Not that he was afraid of what she’d do per say, but his mother had taught him never to hit a girl and well...He wasn’t sure she wouldn’t put him on the bar if he didn’t try defending himself. No, long story short he was better off having her as an ally then an enemy.
“Only a bit of one?” Cade asks with a smirk as she polishes off the whiskey, “I kind of feel like I should invest in a cast iron cup for fear of losing my nuts. ” he adds finishing off his second beer. Cade actually figured his loneliness comment would get him deck, and instead she nearly chokes to death, naturally. Really that was Cade’s luck with women for ya, he’d get with them and they’d run for the hills or die. Well, ok none of them had ever died, but why get technical? None of them had ever stuck around.
He paused at her words and smirked, as she touched his face, looking right into her eyes as he does, and bats his big blue eyes at her. “Really now, and is that the whiskey talking or you? I don’t generally go for the drunk girls you know, it’s no good if they pass out before the ending.” he teases with a smirk. Cade watches as she leans down to pet Loki, all joking aside she was hot. End of story, her body was to die for. Personality wise? She was great too, definitely someone Cade would get with if he thought he could. Hell, she was the type he could possibly date, if he was into the nonsense.
Cade’s eyes narrowed as the blonde appeared and put a hand on Avril’s shoulder, and then proceeded with the lamest pick up line he’d ever heard. He knew she could take care of it though, and getting involved would only get him in trouble. Oh who was he kidding? If the guy got rough, Cade would take care of him, no problem.
Guys do NOT hit girls, EVER. PERIOD. End of story.
It was Loki’s growl that alerted Cade first. The dog was friendly to everyone, even people who didn’t deserve it. Cade had only heard Loki growl, and only when there were vampire’s around. The dog was almost racist, but not quite, it was vampires that he didn’t like (and Cade didn’t blame him), and yeah. Hence the growling.
Cade was quick enough that he didn’t even catch what she had said. He wasn’t quick enough to stop the vampire from grabbing her, but the small, verbane soaked, wooden stake found the base of the vampire’s neck efficiently. Throwing his weight behind it, Cade drove it home with a sickening scream from the vampire.

Avril rolled her eyes at Cade’s reply about needing a cast iron cup to protect his balls from getting sliced off. “If that’s what you think you should get then by all means help yourself,” she replied with a snort as she chuckled. Avril hadn’t known Cade very well or long. The two were from the same area, but they never hung out with each other. She usually did not even guys the time of day because most of them just wanted most girls for one thing: sex. Avril was more of the long wolf type to keep to herself and usually didn’t hang out with other people if she could help it.
Avril looked up into Cade’s blue eyes and chuckled when he asked her if the whiskey was doing her talking or if it was just her doing the talking because he usually didn’t go for drunk girls and whatnot. She wasn’t drunk; at least not yet. “Really?” she mused as she raised an eyebrow as she looked up from petting Loki. She wasn’t aware of the fact that Cade was checking her out. Not that she minded in the slightest bit, but she wasn’t going to be a complete dim wit and play right into his hands. However she did find Cade attractive. She shoved that thought away and regained her train of thought. “No I’m not drunk,” she said.
When the idiot blonde grabbed her, she tried to shove him off of her. She saw the man’s face shift into a vampire.
‘You’ve got to be kidding me,’ she thought as she let out a scream as she closed her eyes as her heart pounded. ‘Yep…I’m a dead woman,’ she thought until the vampire screamed from someone driving a stake into its neck. She opened her eyes and noticed that Cade was the one who staked the vampire and the body fell to the ground.
“Closing time,” called the bartender as he motioned for the bouncers to clean up the mess.
Avril gave her head a shake to get her mind back on track and she finished her drink as she looked at Cade. “Thanks for that,” she said as she grabbed her jacket and slipped it on and she gave Loki another milk bone. “So is this how you normally pick up ladies?” she teased.

Cade caught the vampire as he let go of the stake, and the thing crumpled. Grimacing, he past the thing off to the bouncers, “You know what to do with him, and sorry Jack,” he says as he grabs a napkin and wipes off the blood that had gotten on to him. “No problem Cade, take care and say hi to your old man for me.” Cade just nods before turning back to Avril.
Loki had turned tail and taken off after the Vampire had grabbed Avril. He was a great dog, generally bold, curious and loving towards anyone, but he was a coward when it came to confrontation. Which was fine with Cade, he preferred that the dog got out of the way and stayed unharmed anyways. I saved him a lot of money on vet bills. He smiles approvingly as Avril offers Loki another treat, coaxing the slightly terrified dog out from under a nearby table. Loki was Cade’s life, the dog had been his family, and best friend for the last year. If you were going to be around Cade, you had to accept Loki, and for whatever reason, the fact that Avril and the dog liked each other was something Cade was thankful for.
He chuckles at her question, “Nah, generally I win them over with my gentlemanly charm and shaming good looks, ” he says with a chuckle. “Although, I suppose I could change my methods, that is if these ones work...” he says, giving her a smile, a mischievous glint in his eyes, “The whole save the damsel in distress thing, it’s gotta be hot right?” he asks.

Avril leaned back and when she did, her shirt rode up some and showed off part of angel wings and skull tattoo. She blinked as she tilted her head to the side. 'He did not just stake that...that...hideous creature,' Avril thought as she watched Cade pull the stake out of the vampire's neck. She blinked as she gave her head a shake to clear the horrible image out of her head as she slipped her jacket back on and she noticed Loki had a begging look in his eyes and she rolled her eyes and chuckled as she reached over and petted Loki and scratched his ear who happily wagged its tail up and down.
’Maybe I should get a dog one day,' she thought to herself as she scratched the tip of her nose and finished off her whiskey. She ran her hand across her neck to make sure that the vampire hadn't bit her and she felt a little bit of blood on her neck, but she didn't have a bite mark on her. The blood came from the vampire when Cade staked it.
"Here I thought vampires could only be killed with silver bullets not that have ran into many vampires or slayers that is," Avril quipped as she grabbed a rag Jack gave her to wipe the blood off and she gave him a lopsided smile.
CRACK!
More dry lightning crackled outside of the bar and Avril knew it was about to let the cat out of the bag as she glanced up and noticed the rain stricken window as she turned her attention back to Cade as rolled her eyes at his comment about using his charm to get a girl's attention. "Looks ain't everything," she said as she adjusted the sleeve on her jacket and buttoned up her jacket and removed her hair out from underneath it. She rolled her eyes at his comment about the damsel in distress act being hot. "Maybe," she said as she smiled and did something that was so not expected. She leaned over and kissed Cade on the cheek. "That is the only prize you get for saving my neck," she said as winked at Cade. Okay maybe the bourbon and whiskey was loosening her up a little not that she was drunk she was in a good mood. When she first walked in the bar she was not expecting to meet a guy and hit it off. She was more of a lone wolf type who did not trust anyone. "I think we better get the hell out of here before more riff-raff show up and decide to come after you for killing their pet," she said as she made her way towards the door before it started to pour down.

He handed the towel back to Jack with a nod of thank before grabbing his leather jacket and pulling it on. Cade shrugs at Avril’s comment about killing the vampire, “There are multiple ways to do it, and not all the myths are exactly right, some are off or missing bits and pieces of information.” he tells her. He jumps at the sudden crack from the lightening, swearing under his breath as he does. On the floor Loki just gives him a look before sitting down next to Avril and enjoying the attention she bestows on him.
The rain was pounding down even harder outside now. Great, just great more rain. Having grown up in the desert, Cade really did prefer things to be dry as opposed to wet. Actually, Cade hated being wet period, he also didn’t like loud sudden noises. Needless to say thunderstorms were NOT his thing, and he kind of wished he never had to deal with them. You got what you got though right?
Cade chuckles as she rolls her eyes at him, yeah that he was use to from the girls. More often than not, that’s what he got for all his flirting attempts. As she kissed his cheek though, he was more than a little surprised, not what he expected but he’d take it. He laughs as she comments about that being all he was getting, “Oh come on, I did just save your life there, he points out with a smirk. The wink made him smirk even more, “Maybe I just have to play my cards right eh?”
Following her over to the door, he hesitates at the opening as he watches the rain pour down. Oh the joys. He considered her words as he eyed the rain with distaste, “Yeah, probably. There’s a good chance they won’t know for a while that he’s gone though, and even if they did...” he shrugged and trailed off, really unconcerned about the idea of more vampires coming around. He was willing to take her up on her suggestion of leaving here though, “And where do you propose we take off too?” he asks her as he watches her letting his eyes wonder over her body as he does .

Avril chuckled when she heard Cade curse under his breath at the lightning. “I take it you don’t care too much for the rain,” she mused as she raised an eyebrow up. Avril did not care much for the rain either but beggars couldn’t be choosers, could they?
CRACK!
More lightning followed in after the rain came pouring down and Avril nearly dropped her katana, but she put it back in its holster and covered it up with her jacket so it was out of site and out of mind. ‘Looks like we ain’t going anywhere just yet. Might as well stall for some time,’ she thought as she tilted her head to the side slightly. She rolled her eyes again at Cade when he pointed out that he had just saved her life and she put her hands on her hips. “Thank you for pointing that out, Captain Obvious,” she replied in a sarcastic manner and then she raised an eyebrow up at him when he said something about playing his cards right. ‘He must want one me to deck him one,’ she thought as she flashed him a smile. “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” she replied as she shook her head. Normally by now she would have either told the guy to screw off or decked him across the face. But there was something unique about Cade that Avril could not quite put her finger on that made her think that he was not so bad. She was able to tolerate him not that she was much of a people person. When he asked her what she thought they could do, she thought for a moment. “I say we wait until the rain lets up that is if Jack doesn’t mind after the mess you made in here,” she teased as she bent down the scratch Loki behind the ear.

He chuckled at her remark about the rain, “I grew up in the desert, kind of like the dry heat personally, he tells her with a small smile. The next crack took him by surprise, and he jumped again. Yeah, it wasn’t so much the rain (although Cade didn’t like that at all) as the cracks of thunder. He hated any type of loud, sudden noise, he always had. Apparently even as a baby, he had been bad for it, well noise in general set him off.
A third crack of thunder had him taking a step back from the door, or at least that’s what he would claim it was. In reality, he just had a feeling he had over stepped his bounds. After seeing the Katana that Avril carried around with her, he wasn’t going to stay within reach of that thing if he could at all help it. No, he liked his balls right where they were thanks. Although he had never considered having anyone in his life past his dog, who knew? Some day he may have a use for those...
Cade smirked at her comment about counting chickens. Yeah, yeah he shouldn’t be so cocky, and he knew it but it was who he was. Love him or hate him, he was a cocky bastard. As he watched her though, he had a feeling that she might actually like him, which would be a bonus. He chuckled at her suggestion, “After the mess I made? It was in the act of protecting a beautiful woman, it’s fine I’m sure, right Jack?” he asks, calling to the bar keep over his shoulder. “Just don’t start any more trouble kid,” he tells him.
Giving the bar keep a thumbs up, he walks over and pulls a chair out from one of the empty tables and motions for her to sit in it. “Unless you would prefer to make a mad dash for my car?” he suggests watching her.

Who in their right mind liked the heat? Avril preferred being in an area that was cool. She watched him curiously and when he jumped she put her hand over her mouth to cover up the sly smile that was forming on her face. She had never seen someone move that quickly when it came to lightning. Besides the guy was cute and apparently had a way with making things interesting or entertaining at least. She chuckled as she watched him back away from her katana. “Don’t tell me you are afraid of my katana?” she teased as she shook her head. “You haven’t annoyed me yet so you are on my good graces. At least for now you are that is,” she added, allowing the sly smile to form on her face. Apparently the boozes were sobering her up.
What the hell is wrong with this picture? When had Avril ever gone out her way to talk to anyone? Today must have been a blue moon or hell froze over. Shoving that thought out of her mind, Avril rolled her eyes at Jack’s comment about starting anymore trouble. That last bit hadn’t been their fault and that vampire deserved it for trying to bite her.
“And risk busting my ass on my katana no thank you,” Avril replied sarcastically as she playfully flicked her middle finger up at Cade and she walked towards the chair and she flopped down beside him. Rain pelted and streaked the window and she glanced out the window. The bartender brought them some more whiskey and she picked up the bottle and drank from it.

He smiled as she covered her smirk with a hand, yeah she was cute that was for sure, and not in a dumb blond way that made him want to slit his wrists either. Why girls thought guys found that attractive was beyond him, pretty much all it meant was you were easy. Which, in some ways was ok if you were into the one night stand, play boy type thing, which Cade was but...He had avoided that type, most of them would give it away no problem, and that kind of worried him. After all, who else had they been with? And how safe had they been?
He maybe a player, one night stand type but he wasn’t stupid. Kids and STD’s were not part of his plan in life, at least not yet. What had his mother always told him? If you’re not going to wrap it, wack it, or something like that. His mother was a strange one, there was no doubt about that, but he loved her just the same.
No, as he watched Avril he knew she wasn’t the dumb blond type he tried to avoid. She was beautiful, self confident, and had an attitude. She was...Well, not perfect but she was something. Cade shook his head at this thought, where had that come from? No way he was getting into that...Not now, not ever.. To cover the head shake he chuckled, “At least the Katana is something to be worried about, but no it’s not that its...” he trails off before shrugging, “it’s the thunder. I don’t do loud sudden noises, ” he tells her with a shrug, trying to play it off as no big deal.
It was weird when you looked at it. Cade hunted the monsters that nightmares where made of for a living. You’d think the guy would have nerves of steel, but nope. Like any other human out there, he had his phobias. Loud noises, spiders and needles may all seem like irrational fears to some people, but they were a sure fire way to make Cade squirm. He hated them, feared them, and avoided them at all costs.
“I’ll remember to try and stay on your good side then, I don’t want any trouble, he says with a wink as he lounges lazily in his chair. Loki trots over and sits down, putting his head in Avril’s lap as he does, thumping his stub of a tail on the ground. Cade chuckles at her comment about the Katana and smiles as he watches the dog, “Looks like you have a friend,” he observes. “Do you have any animals of your own?” he asks curiously.

Avril certainly was not your dumb blonde bimbo from down the street. She may have kept her distance from people, but she also knew some men could be a jackass and try to tell other people what to do. Hell would definitely have to freeze over before someone told her what she could and couldn’t do. Avril may not have the best childhood, but she knew how to take care of herself. There were only a few people that she cared for and would do anything for them and that was her mentor Luke Towers who took her in after she had had enough of how her mother’s sister family treated her. Her parents died when she was about ten years old and she had been raised by her horrible aunt and uncle who had a son that treated her the same way. Growing up in a non-loving environment had taught her how she had to look out for herself and not to trust many people.
“So the sound of thunder makes you boxers get in a twist?” Avril teased as she smirked. She felt Loki put his head on her lap and she put her hand on his head and petted him and scratched behind his ear gently. She reached into the side pocket of the table and pulled out a milk bone and held it in her hand as Loki ate it from her palm.
Cade was right about one thing Loki had definitely taken a liking to her. “Really? I think he just likes me because I give him treats,” she mused as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Nope I don’t have any pets as of yet,” she said as she sipped on her drink.
