It was loud, a bit too loud for a place that you wanted to go for just a beer and possibly a burger. It was as if the whole town was at the Mystic Grill. Sure, it was a Saturday night, but there had to be something else going on. There had to be some punk teenager throwing some sort of kegger. It seemed that was all this town was good for. Parties and the supernatural. Ruby didn’t think there was a town that was crawling with so many supes as if some sort of black hole had dropped them all into this poor pathetic town. It was a hard life being a hunter, to say the least.
Yet, she was trying. Ruby had down a lot of bad in her life. She now has a second chance with this human body and she was going to try her hardest not go back to hell. It wasn’t just that though. She was doing it to prove to Sam that she could be trusted again. Too bad she had no clue where he was or if he would even talk to her. Something told her that he was simply stab her in the gut and then ask how she came back from the dead. Problem was, she had no clue how she was there, and most of all human. All she knew was she woke up in this god forsaken town, and killing the very beings that she once was.
That wasn’t all though. Something was off about this town. Ruby didn’t have a good feeling about it at all. Thing was, she wasn’t particular good at the whole digging for information part. She was mostly the whole kick the monster’s ass part of being a hunter. She had a feeling though that coming back to life had something to do with this town, and knowing how all supernatural things revolve around the Winchester boys, she had to get answers, or at least someone to talk to.
Sitting down at the bar, she was here for one reason, to talk to him… Castiel. As much as she hated the thought of talking to the angel, mainly because she was thinking he would simply just kill her over anything, she need to get some sort of clue what was going on at Mystic Falls. So with that, she ordered herself a beer and looked at the empty seat next to her. “Castiel.” She grumbled, her eyes briefly looking up at the ceiling as if he was hiding there. “Castiel, I summon you.. or whatever..” Ruby rolled her eyes. Even if she was on this whole good crusade, the thought of talking to this angel was going to be a huge pain in the ass. In more ways than one. Thank god for the beer, though.

Things haven’t been quiet or lazy for Castiel since he got out of purgatory. He had been searching for various people, as well as learning new things about the Leviathans and their intentions. One of which was to resurrect the dead and create issues and roadblocks for the Winchesters. He had just heard the prayers and met with a Jessica Moore, the ex fiance of Sam Winchester so many years ago. Castiel had to be the one to explain all things supernatural to the poor woman who just couldn’t understand why Sam tried to hide it from her all those years that they knew one another. Though resurrecting the dead wasn’t only creating problems for the Winchesters, but for Castiel as well. His old enemies were returning and wanting his head on a silver platter, like Balthazar and Michael. Michael was released from Satan’s cage and neither of them knew why besides that Father wished for him to be released and help in the fight of evil. Castiel just couldn’t understand that.
The way that he had found out about Jessica Moore was when she prayed in the church, asking for answers and since he was in the area and most other angels in heaven were occupied, Castiel beckoned to her call. Now, another voice pierced his thoughts. With a sigh, Castiel instantly ended up in the Mystic Grill, but showed up in the bathroom so that his random appearance would not startle the humans and create a problem. Mystic Falls was a small little town and he already knew where everything was. The town had been filled with beasts and he had yet to reach the female named Elena Gilbert, Katherine Pierce and another with the Petrova blood that could open the gates of hell. So far, no Leviathans were in the area, for they had not yet figured out where the female was. Castiel then, could “relax” just a little bit and get prepared before the Leviathans caught on. Many angels were involved with protecting Elena and everyone else. No one wanted hell on earth.
Walking out of the bathroom, his eyes wandered around the place, observing the humans that were all new faces to him. Heading over to the bar where the voice had summoned him, he took a seat next to the female. Only to look at her and become completely shocked to see that it was Ruby! Well that would make sense, how would a human know his name in the first place. Castiel’s eyes widened as he held his hand low in front of him, ready to send her back to hell if she made a move. ”Ruby?! What are you doing here? And you’re a human?! Castiel was completely bewildered and then felt less tense to find that she was a human and no essence of demon remained. Cas then reached into her past to see what she was up to. Righting her wrongs when she was a demon and wanting Sam Winchester to trust her again... His eyes focused to the granite table and leaned his arms on it before calming down and trying to think of why she was a human. Was it just a mix up? ”Why did you summon me here? Ruby was truly the last person he wanted to see right now...but something seemed to have changed in her.

She sat there in silence, her fingers lightly ringing around the top of the glass that was set in front of her. Maybe didn’t know everything, but Ruby swore that was basically how you were supposed to summon an angel like that, aside from the whole mumbo-jumbo drawing pictures with chalk sort of thing. She didn’t want to do that, she was still trying to get ahold of magic as a witch again. It was like starting from the beginning and frankly, it was quite annoying. No, what was annoying was the fact that she was human again. Hell would have to freeze over before she went back there anyway.
Hell that is. She was trying her damn hardest to not be sent back there. She was a human now, meaning she had to get a second chance right? Ruby hoped so, prayed so, because she felt betrayed. Ruby thought she was the pride and joy of the big bad, and instead of getting rewarded by Lucifer, all she had was death. Now she was back, and sure as hell wasn’t going back anytime soon if she had something to do with it. Ruby had done a lot of bad things, so she’s trying to fix them. It was harder than she thought, so in the mean time she took to being a hunter. She figured she could at least get some points by killing some bad guys. She did like the killing…
Ruby was beginning to think that he wasn’t going to show at all. She drew in a frustrated sigh while downing half of the pint in front of her when he waltzed out of the bathroom. Either angels now needed to use the little boy’s room, or he decided that materializing in a stall was a better idea than in the middle of a crowded bar. She was hoping it was the second one. It was kind of hard to think of Angels of doing anything relatively normal. Funny how one would describe normal around Mystic Falls, seems the place was crawling with the supernatural. At yet, despite all of this, Cas still managed to look shocked at the fact that she was just sitting there at the bar.
Ruby frowned when his hand stayed low and fingers outstretched. “Calm yourself. You could see I’m not a demon anymore, so no need to send me back there.” She said, hoping he would at least give her the chance to explain herself. She kind of pictured him flipping his shit and killing her right there at the grill. Yet, he remained calm. Perhaps that was the difference between angels and demons. Aside from the fact that one was good and the other evil, of course.
It was apparent that he was just as confused as she was. Dang. That meant he had no clue on why she was there either. “I was hoping for answers, but apparently you have none judging by your confused facial expressions. Kind of looks like you’re constipated.” She snorted with a grin. Tilting her head, she just looked at him for a moment. “I know you can reach in my head. So figure it out, Angel boy. It would be nice to know what was going on around here…” …and have one friendly face in this hell on earth… she thought, her eyes flickering to her beer. “Can I buy you a drink, or do you lot not indulge in alcohol?”

Approaching Ruby with caution-filled eyes, Castiel was not exactly sure on how to react or what actions to take. The Leviathans had resurrected the dead, but even demons and angels? It didn’t make sense, and it only meant that the witch that they had in their grasp was a very powerful one which could lead to even more trouble. Though, when he looked at her, he did not feel the aura of a demon, nor could he see her black eyes. Nothing was demon about her, in fact, she smelled human as well. Everything about her screamed human, so was this the same Ruby that he once knew? But why would her vessel know Castiel’s name and be in Mystic Falls as well. There was only one explanation...Ruby was a human, but how could that even be possible? Justing seeing her, he wanted to send her straight to hell, but by laying his fingers on her, nothing would happen because she was not a human.
The look and shock in Castiel’s face was apparent to Ruby and she told him to calm himself because he can see that she is not a demon anymore so there was no reason to send her back there. Castiel’s blue eyes narrowed, still not sure on how to react. ”But how do I know that you’re still not working for Lucifer? Trying to gain all of his favor that you can?” He questioned her quietly, but another part of him wanted to give her a chance to explain herself and perhaps maybe she had changed. ”Whatever...just explain yourself.” Castiel quickly noted to her, waiting in eagerness to hear her explanation of things. If she was a human and no longer a demon, how should he feel towards her now? Castiel closed his mouth when she told him that he looked very confused as if he was constipated. He lightly rolled his eyes and quickly added. ”Looks like your personality has not changed.” As Castiel tried to insult her back...if that was even considered an insult, for he wasn’t very good at this.
Ruby stated the obvious when she said that Castiel could just reach into her head and see everything that has happened and tell her because she would like to be informed on everything. Castiel kept silent and started to read through her thoughts, looking at her with narrowed eyes and a look of question still remaining on his features. When she asked if she could get him a drink or questioned if he did not indulge in alcohol, his mind flickered to when he got drunk because things weren’t going all too well. The taste was not all too amusing, but the feeling of not being all there was what he liked about it. The angel hesitated for a moment, ”Sure..I could use some relief...” By that, he meant stress relief. He had a lot of problems on his shoulders at the moment, why not help himself feel a little better in the mean time. He eyed her for a moment as he looked at all she had done and her intentions as well. ”I know why you’re back...I just could not comprehend why you called me and why you are a human....” Castiel paused, not sure if he should give her details, but she looked like she really had no idea.
Judging her heart, he could see that she was being honest. Ruby was now a human hunter who was looking to right all of the wrongs she had done. His eyebrows lifted and his head shifted back up straight once again. ”God’s first beasts, the Leviathans have used a resurrection spell...to bring back the dead to create a distraction for the Winchesters...” Then he sighed, she was the second female in a row who wished to gain Sam’s love. ”Are you trying to cleanse your soul so that Sam Winchester will be in love with you once again?” It was just a concept that Castiel could not understand. He would continue his story once she answered a few of his previous questions, or if she showed interest or asked more about the Leviathans.

When Ruby had first opened her eyes in the middle of a field in Mystic Falls, she couldn’t believe it. In fact, one of the very first things she did was run into a gas station bathroom, one of those that only had one stall. She stared in the mirror in disbelief touching her face. “No.. this can’t be right… How in the hell..” She was dumbfounded. Her reflection showed her very last meat suit. Turning around, she held her hands out to see if she could move the door on the stall with her demonic powers, but it didn’t move, nor did she feel in powers. Swinging back to the mirror, she tried to reveal her black eyes, but only the brown ones stared back at her in her reflection. Frustrated, Ruby slammed her hand against the mirror causing it to shatter. “Ow.” She muttered, seeing the blood on her hands. “I’m really human?” She questioned to no one in particular when a single tear fell down her cheek. “Oh great… I’m all the way human.”
Ruby brought herself back into the present, slightly sliding around on the barstool to fully face Castiel. It was apparent by his expression that he didn’t believe her. He had every right not to believe her. She had been a total and complete bitch, especially to the people that had been close to her. All because of her demonic side just had to take over. Then again, who ever heard of a nice demon? She frowned, downcasting her eyes as he questioned if she was merely human but still working for Lucifer. “Don’t you get it? He abandoned me; and because of him I lost everyone that I held close to me! I want nothing to do with the man. In fact, I personally would like to put a stop to him once and for all. But I’m only human. So I’m trying to stick to what I can do. Mainly becoming a hunter and killing those who I used to be. I want a new life. I want one where I wasn’t such a… a.. bitch.” Ruby explained. When he stated that her personality didn’t changed, she merely smirked. “Well there are somethings about me I can’t turn off. Besides, some people think I’m funny.”
She could only smile when he agreed to have a drink. Ruby turned to the bartender, waving him down. “Two more pints please..” She grinned, shoving one of them in front of Castiel. “Do you think I have an explanation for it? The way I see it, I get another chance. I’m alive, I’m human. I called you…” Ruby started, taking another gulp of the beer. “I called you because I am pretty sure you are the only one that would have talked to me without killing me first.. that perhaps.. you can help me. I’m kind of alone now.” She said truthfully. If Ruby had went to anyone else, they would have simply killed her. She needed someone to understand what was going on, and even help her a little bit. She only hoped that Cas would oblige.
Ruby frowned when he spoke about Levianthans, she knew about them, mainly about the fact that they couldn’t be killed. “Really, they were the ones that did the spell? Hell.. I may not know a lot about them, but I do know that they can’t be killed. Well, I guess I had a nice short second life. Maybe I should hit Disney World before dying again.. or them eating me!” Ruby exclaimed, crossing her arms. She looked away from him when he mentioned Sam. “That… ain’t ever gonna happen Angel-boy. I saw that his old fiancé rose from the dead too. Don’t worry.. I am going nowhere near him. I sure as hell am not doing this for him either. I do not love him.”

Castiel continued to search through her mind, wishing he could find the lie within that she was still a demon. Why was he hoping she was lying? Well, after everything, Ruby could be the one to be blamed for the current events that were taking place. Castiel needed to get over it and deal with what was the present and not linger on the past, and as an angel, he should easily be able to understand that and not hold a petty grudge against her. Honestly, as he sensed she was a human, the fear and anger from looking at her had disappeared, and he didn’t want to admit this. As he continued to look into her mind, he saw that she was genuine about changing now. Being brought back to life, she tested if she was a demon or not and as she punched the mirror and felt pain, a tear fell from her eye and slid down her cheek, a sign that she was displeased with being a human. Cas cocked his head and couldn’t help but to ask why she released a tear. ”Did you shed a tear because of the pain or the thought of being a human?” If Cas was in her place, he would feel blessed to being have given a second chance as a human and not as a creature deemed to burn in hell.
It was hard to believe that a demon had changed completely and wanted to now right the wrongs she once made. A demon never changed, but now that she was stuck as being a human, maybe it was the perfect opportunity. Castiel would still be wary though, but everything within him told him that she was being truthful. But as Cas questioned if she was still working for Lucifer, she became angry and explained how Lucifer abandoned her and lost everyone she cared about and wanted nothing to do with him. Castiel could hear the honesty in her voice as well as the true pain that Lucifer caused her. He shrugged when she mentioned that she was only human now and was trying to do what she could do. For the Winchesters were only human, and throughout their hunter careers, they are still alive today. She said she was now a hunter that was now killing what she used to be. Ruby exclaimed that she wanted a new life, one where she wasn’t such a bitch. Cas believed that was quite an understatement, but didn’t say anything about it for now. Remarking that her personality hadn’t changed, she told him that there were things she couldn’t change and that people actually found her funny.
Cas merely paused, she had the same humor as Dean, Sam, Meg and all others. Castiel wasn’t fond of her personality only because she used so much sarcasm, a feature that Cas was never able to understand. ”You may only be human, but you can win the favor of others...” Hinting how the angel endlessly helps the Winchesters and even fell for them. ”You can change your life, I believe it’s possible. Lucifer will never be truthful in the words he says about not harming the ones you love. He will do anything to meet his own ends.” Looking down, he felt sorrow for Ruby and how much her life had fallen apart. ”All I know is that it will be hard at times to resist joining Lucifer or Crowley in return for something.” Surely Ruby already knew this, but wanted to let her know. He believed that she could turn “good.” Agreeing to have a drink, Ruby smiled. People found it odd that the angel would drink, and honestly, he did too, but he liked the feeling it gave his mind and he couldn’t understand it. Ruby bore a grin before shoving the beer his way and he grabbed it before studying it for a minute and taking a drink, the drink was the longest a person could ever do. Castiel didn’t need even breath and he didn’t understand drinking in increments, so he downed the whole drink in a matter of a few minutes.
Placing the glass down, he let out a sigh of satisfaction before calmly looking back to Ruby as she asked if he had an explanation for it all. Then when he asked why she called him in particular, she told him that she believed he would be the only one that would not kill her first when he laid eyes on her and that he could perhaps help her because she was alone now. The sorrow within him rose up again and he couldn’t shake it off, and it could only mean that she was sincere. It was true that everyone else truly hated her and wanted her dead and she could use some help in her situation. Cas lowered his eyes before thinking and then looked back up to her to explain how the resurrection was the work of the Leviathans. The talk of the Leviathans had brought fear into Ruby’s eyes and she started to panic and it was obvious to see. ”Calm down, angels can “kill” them, such as Michael. But as for me, I have been given more power...in order to send them back to purgatory permanently.” Castiel was given more power by God, even after all he had done. And he was the only one who was told about the ones with the special blood. ”I can protect you Ruby...” Regarding to her comment of being eaten. Wait, why did he say that? She truly was trying to change and as an angel, he would be the only one to help her down the path of turning her life around after being a bitch demon.
At the mention of Sam, she averted her eyes from him. He lowered his own eyes, knowing he had offended her. She told him that the two were to never get together because she saw his old fiance’ brought back from the dead. Cas perked up because he met her as she prayed to understand what was going on and he was the one to answer her call. Ruby claimed she wasn’t going to go anywhere near him and that she was not doing this life change for him because she did not love him. ”Yes, I have seen Jessica Moore, but Sam has become a different person since she left him...and since he left you. I don’t keep track of Sam’s love relations, but I’d say he can’t handle a relationship, neither could Dean.” As hunters, they were endlessly on the move. ”Anyways, I am willing to help you and be your friend, but if you dare betray me, I will not take it lightly...” He trailed off, hoping she could use her imagination for the rest. ”I can help you turn your life around and help you learn to be a hunter....I suppose this will have to be a secret from Sam and Dean, so I won’t be able to be with you all of the time. I have to divide my time equally between everyone who needs my guidance.” Castiel was always at everyone’s aid.

Ruby hated it when angels could see into her past. She found that to be so unfair, seeing as she couldn’t do the same. Now that she was human, there really wasn’t much she could do. True, she could recite a few spells, and kick some demon’s ass with the aid of her knife. Yet, she didn’t have her abilities or powers when she was a demon. More importantly she was mortal again. That meant it was very easy for her to die. Ruby was going to have to watch her back more now that she was human, especially since everyone pretty much hated her. They had every right to. After all, she did bring about the whole end of the world thing. Only for Lucifer, and he shut her out. She had been tricked, and she hated that. Hated it even more that she had a conscious. Ruby even hated herself, or rather what she had been. That was why she was attempting to change. When Castiel looked into her past, he asked if the tear that she shed was because she was angry that she was human. Ruby simply rolled her eyes at him. “No, you idiot. It was mix of emotions. I was happy that I was alive, happy that I was human. More importantly, though, I was sad and disappointed in myself for what I had done, because it cost me the one thing I had cared about the most.” She replied, referring to Sam.
She was being genuine in the fact that she wanted to change. Thing was, it was still hard when you had been doing something for hundreds of years to do a complete one-eighty. Ruby was trying her hardest though, going about it by herself. She even decided to try and get a job to pay for her stuff, and abide by the law. Heck, she even bought herself a bible. Well, she hasn’t read it, but it had a lot of pages, and she pretty much knew the gist of it anyway. The point was, she knew that she couldn’t change the past. She had done a lot of crap. However, she did want to change her future. Ruby only hoped that what she was doing had been noticed by others. She wanted to do this for her, for the new found soul she had. There was no way she was going back to hell, going back to the ones who had tricked her. More importantly she wanted to prove to the others, like Sam and Castiel that she could change. Most people thought no one could change, Ruby was going to change that.
Ruby mustered up a smile when she said that she could win the favor of others. “It’s been hard. Even people who don’t know me here hate me. I guess they can sense it. I just don’t want to end back up there. I’m sure you could understand that.” Ruby dug her nail into a notch in the wooden bar top before taking another sip of her beer. She nodded when Castiel warned her that it meant that others would hurt the ones that she loved. “I guess it’s a good thing I don’t love anyone then.” Ruby lied, looking back at Cas. “Besides, there is nothing that Lucifer or even Crowley can offer me that I would go back to my old lifestyle. Even if they promised I could get back with Sam. I don’t want to go back to them. Sue me if I want a bit of happiness in my life. Kicking demon ass is my happiness.” Ruby chuckled, tucking her brown hair behind her ears.
She watched him with curiosity as he downed the whole beer in one sitting, not even stopping to breathe. Ruby chuckled, “Whoah, slow down there cowboy. Isn’t there a law against drinking and flying?” She signaled for the bartender to bring them another round. It was true that she might have been in panic mode when he had mentioned the Leviathans. Only because they ate people for breakfast. She didn’t stand a chance. Ruby listened to him saying that angels could kill them and Cas had been given more power in order to send them back to Purgatory, but that was Castiel. She wasn’t him nor an angel, so that didn’t help her one bit. That was until he said that he would protect her. Ruby almost fell off of her chair. Did he really just say that? “Wait a minute, you would really protect me?” She asked. Her eyes were probably out of their sockets with how much shock she was in. Ruby was only hoping that he would give her information, and yet he just said that he could protect her. She didn’t know whether to hug him or buy him another beer.
Castiel acknowledged the fact that she didn’t want to talk about Sam. Even the mention of his named left a pain in her heart. She could feel it even more now that she was human and had human emotions and feelings. God, she hated those. Ruby only shrugged to the fact that he mentioned that neither one of the Winchester boys could handle a relationship. “Either could I, truth be told. I’m not exactly the type to settle down. I mean come on, do you see me as a housewife?” Ruby joked. She was actually truly touched when he said that he would protect her. He also warned her if she went back to her old ways. “Don’t get your panties in a twist, I don’t want any of your angel mumbo-jumbo. I’ll keep my promise. Yes, please don’t tell Sam and Dean. I think they would just chop my head off without even saying anything. I do appreciate it though.. your help. No one else would. I guess this means I owe you.”
